Oil Catch Can Temperature?
I've been looking around to put my own OCC kit together, using a quality coalescent air filter and some Home Depot hoes.
I've decided on this filter, but i'm hesitant about which version to get. The polycarb bowl handles up to 125F Temps and the Alu bowl up to 175F. It has an insanely high airflow rating for a catch can (~200CFM), filters to 0.3 micron, and has a nice locking bowl release in addition to a regular drain. I've heard our underhood temps can easily reach 120 on a hot day. Should i just spend the extra 10 bucks and get the metal bowl?

I don't know, it never feels hot to me, even after driving it..guess I never paid attention.
Putting one together is a good project...but the BSH Catch Can is worth every penny and the best out there...worth the price of admission.

Allright, it's settled then. I'm going for the metal one.

However, I'm a control freak, and i want to be able to replace the filter element and detach the bowl from the filter to clean, etc.

Under the hood gets VERY hot, especially if youre going to drive for 2+ hours. It gets so hot that i couldnt open my hood after driving once because of the heat.

Thanks, that is a very good point. I hadn't considered the pressure drop in an extremely low pressure case. However, wouldn't the relation between the resistance and inlet pressure be proportional to eachother?
AR design's can is a pneumatic filter as well if I remember correctly? Imma do some more research Quote:

i think the position the catch can is mounted in matters, too. the ar design catch can has the most ideal mounting location, IMO. you don't want the catch can over the exhaust manifolds/turbos for the best results.

i bought it for 2 reasons:
1) ar design knows how to turn out high quality parts 2) it's the only n54 specific occ that mounts in the front driver's side corner of the engine bay as i eluded to before, you don't want your oil catch can sitting on top of the biggest heat generators in the engine bay |

There is only 1 DIY for the OCC http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=368738 It seems the AR would be more difficult to install. |

Thanks!
Does anyone actually have data on the flow through the PCV? It'd be real helpful to know the massflow/pressure. Quote:

joshuo: my Norgren unit has a few un-threaded holes on the top of it, where you could tap &/ use self threading screws. A single, straight bit of aluminum would be enough to mount it to the front driver's side. Or you can ghetto rig something like I did with my norgren as they basically look the same.
