Cool BMW S1000RR Tablecloth Trick Debunked? Mythbusters Tests Trick

Earlier this year, BMW released this viral video of the BMW S 1000 RR superbike performing an acceleration-tablecloth trick to help show off its massive acceleration. It made for an impressive visual, but did BMW fake or doctor the video? Mythbusters puts it to the test by trying to replicate the results.

Jamie doesn't use the S 1000 RR, but his very own Erik Buell Racing 1125R, which has enough power to replicate the S1000RR's power.

Agreed.

And his bike had about 150hp if I remember correctly... the S1000RR has 193.

That's quite a big difference for a bike.

All in all, it was a cool video, but it was probably faked the way they did it on mythbusters.

Is that even the S1000RR, because a regular ricer doesnt have launch control on it.

I said to my wife when I saw the ad that it had to be a sheet of glass or something similar. Love Mythbusters!

This is possibly the worst attempt at a myth bust I have seen yet. They didn't even get a decent rider or the correct bike (which is less than $15K!!).

Whether it is true or not, they didn't compare apples to apples. It isn't about HP, but acceleration which the s1k has. Also, look how the cloth was pulled during the BMW pull, it was pulled down and away. Mythbusters pulled up and away.

Mythbusters = Fail... At least at this attempt.

The bike/rider doesn't matter. It's about the force applied to the cloth. Getting the Buell up to 50+mph before pulling on the cloth applied way more force than the BMW starting from a standstill.

If you believe it's the bike/rider, do you also believe the new BMW ad where they guy does the burnout....... and end up in a 10 foot hole when he stops

Did you even watch the videos? The test that mythbusters did pulling the tablecloth at >100mph easily exceeds even the best rider/bike pulling from a stop. There's no debating, it's simple physics.

Now, when I see the BMW ad it looks so fake to me... They lie about their cars... Why wouldn't they about a dumb ad to sell more bikes...??

Are you kidding? Physics doesn't care what brand of bike it is or who is driving it.

I agree, commercials entertain, they don't have to be 100% accurate...
