Part synthetic oil in a 320d E90??
First post,
I've put Part Synthetic Castrol GTX 10W40 a3/b4 in my E90 320D. I know its not the correct oil, I was getting a friend to change the oil and had to buy oil quickly at a nearby supermarket. I've done over 1000 miles since and the car seems fine, but not sure if its doing long term damage. It said 'for petrol & diesel' cars on the front. Is this damaging the engine? Is it worth draining the oil and buying a fully synthetic oil and changing the filter again? If so, what oil would you put in? Its done 80k miles and is a 2005 plate. Thanks Gavin |

Bad idea - BMW engines are designed to be used with fully synthetic oils. Change it asap to an LL04-spec oil like Castrol 5W-30 or similar.

Cheers, went out today and bought 2 x 4l castrol edge 5w30 fully synthetic And will get it changed this week, there was a 5l of mobile 1 Which had LL04 which would have worked out cheaper by buying 1 big bottle- but the consensus seems castrol is the one to go for and recommended by BMW.
Thanks again Gavin |

This is where I've bought my LL04 oil from before - £45 for 8 litres of Edge TD 0W30 - bargain
