Arrow Nissan GT-R Maintenance: In Depth View

im really considering a used gtr as my next car and was curious to see how true these maintenance stories are. so i made an excel spread sheet i would like to share with you guys. just fill in your own labor prices and you got your total .

doesn't seem that bad. you can always supplement with aftermarket parts but this sheet uses only oem. if i used the car as a dd and don't track shouldn't be that bad as to owning an m. thoughts?

doesnt look awful. where do you get a GTR worked on? like are there only certain nissan shops that have a trained tech.

i know this is a completely different type of car, but my next door neighbor has a Carrera GT and when ever he gets it worked on he has to make an appointment and porsche has only 2 guys in all of so-cal that know how to work on them and they have to come in specifically per order and per car.
is the GTR like that? or can any nissan tech work on its brakes and tranny and stuff?

there are a lot of places to trim the fat off your little spreadsheet. different oils, better and cheaper lubricants, brake parts, tires, etc.

not to be a dick, but in general, if you have to ask, you can't afford it. the gtr is a very expensive car to operate...between insurance and maintenance, it costs me over $2000 a month on average to operate, and i drive it maybe 400 miles a month.

i should have wrote between paying for the car itself, insurance, and maintenance, it runs me over $2000 a month. at any rate, there are oil changes, fluid changes galore, tires, brakes, etc., that are typical on any car, but even after cutting the costs, more expensive on a gtr. no included maintenance makes for a mess of ancillary costs. another thing is all the unexpected costs, like disappearing front lips, which i've had 2 break off (one due to fatigue from driveways and one on a failed top speed test, presumably from the force of the wind at 191mph), and just the cost of upkeeping a heavily modified car outside the normal scope of maintenance. it ain't cheap...

Biggest reason why i would stay away from GTR is random costs. Its not the cost of the car is the cost of the upkeep. Same reason i am hesitant about M cars. Thats what is so great about my vette. Its a chevy and i have no problems maintaining it.

FWIW I met three GTR owners at my last track event and all three are considering getting rid of the car due to the maintenance. Granted these guys track a lot there are obviously a lot of out of pocket costs for normal operation too

i know you can save costs by going aftermarket willall, ssp, etc and more diy = more savings but as mentioned i just refrenced to just using oem parts.

hey blake, did you end up selling the gtr or keep it?

i guess ill be getting an m then, feel most secure on that and maintenance. was thinking about the 1m but manual only . as for the cayman s, i figured i really can't dd that with no trunk and no rear seat space. also maintenance on that will somewhat be higher than the m im assuming but can't be by much imo.
