NHL 2010/2011 season thread
It's shaping up to be a great season so far.
How about those Blues, huh? Halak is as good as advertised, the young defensemen Eric Johnson and Alex Pietrangelo are developing into stars, the league is currently in the process of getting "Oshie'd" and Davis Payne is really getting the players into a system that works. I don't think we will keep this up, but there's no reason to believe if we get into the playoffs this time, we could go a long way . |

^ Red Wing fan? You guys have slapped us around for a looooong time. I still remember Yzerman beating Casey in 2OT's.
Howard is playing well and your core is still around. I'll think you'll be OK. Never count out the Wings, even though I think of them as the "evil empire." |

Yeah, I'm a Wings fan, and yes they do seem to be doing alright. I'm not Howard's biggest fan, but aside from Hasek, they've never really had a consistently great goalie, and they've done just fine. I just don't know how Lidstrom is still capable of doing what he does at his age. It's amazing. I can't believe how good the entire Central division is this year.... |

With Halak everything is possible haha
I think Halak is one of the main reasons that the blues are doing good! But the 8-1 lose against the bluejackets is embarrassing lol and now Oshie is out for atleast 3 months The habs are doing good, Price is playing great so far and Markov is back GO HABS GO!!

Oshie's surgery went well, but this is a blow. Backes has always been a slow starter, but after signing the extension today, he really needs to step up (along with Boyes and McDonald). Hopefully Perron and Polak come back soon.
Hey Montreal fans, I know your GM took a pounding for the Halak trade, but as someone who saw Lars Eller play a bit, you got yourself a LEGIT top line talent. The book on him was that the Blues couldn't figure out if he was a winger or center, and therefore got caught out of position a lot. He also needed to get stronger. Talent-wise, the sky is the limit. He sees things well, plays fast, and is a heck of a playmaker. Coach him up and you guys got yourself a front line guy for a while. Plus, Price is playing very well! And thanks for D'Agostini. |

Ouf, the Habs rebounded well against the Bruins after a miserable game against the Flyers. Montréal is again showing to be a mediocre team with an excellent goaltender. Carey Price has been exceptional since the beginning of the season but had an average game against the Flyers and they were beaten badly. It looks like the Habs will fight till the end of the season to insure a playoff spot.

Detroit always looks good, esp when healthy.
Vancouver looks good in the season, but playoffs ??? Washington looks weaker this time around. Pittsburgh is strong if malkin and crosby are good. Chicago is no go this year. tampa is ok if they can sort their goaltending. The biggest losers: San Jose, with an allstar team, they cannot buy themselves goals |

As much as I would have like to have seen Dallas beat Minnesota (for the sake of my commute here in Chicago), I think Chicago going up against Vancouver could be a good thing. I think they (and the Sharks) have the best chance of bouncing Vancouver, and I'd much rather face the Sackhawks than the Canucks.
However, I don't see Detroit beating Phoenix unless Kronwall comes back 100% healthy and Zetterberg comes back as well. |

One of these years the Canucks are going to have to make something happen in the playoffs. Regular season means jack squat if you can't get it done when it matters. |

Chicago isn't the team they were last year. They got rid of all their role-players and those were the guys that really made the team deeper than two lines and three total defensemen, and it takes a deep roster to win the cup. The jury's still going to be out on Crawford until he can prove he doesn't crumble in the Playoffs, although I think he'll be fine. They won't win the cup. I don't think they'll beat Vancouver either but they'll at least give them a tough series and tire them out. IMO of course. I'm more worried about SJ than Van though, to be honest.
