good bye to my 335-hangin' up my turbo gloves

After many hours of contemplating and reading numerous thread about the good and bad (hpfp) of our car, i've finally decided to trade it in. Expecting our 2nd baby in a few months and the coupe of the 335 is just not practical for me right now. And on top of the reliability issue with the 335, hate to have the hpfp fail with kids in the car. So traded in for a 2010 mazda 6 something cheap mainly for my wife to drive the kids around. Although i had no hpfp issue on my 17k mile 335i yet, but after spending hours in this forum, every time i get into the car with the family, i'm afraid it's gonna fail. Just like the time I was driving to Florida and had the worry all the way there for 15 hours. So i was able to convince the wife to stay away from a Scion xD (which she likes) and got a bigger car that we both can drive.

Which brings me to the next question. I will not be leaving this forum just so soon. I want to get a convertible for myself, and maybe occasionally drive my 5 yr old around. 128ic or the 328ic ? I like the look of the rag top, but also like the hardtop capability of the 3's. Prbly gonna look for a 2007 or 2008 cpo, any thoughts. Anyone driven and compared the 2?

Given my fondness of a hardtop convertible, it'd be an easy choice for me.... Thank god you didn't get that Scion!

the 1 series vert is pretty loud inside compared to the 3 vert

but it's still a good car

the vert is a hard top... so you get best of both worlds

if you can afford it get an e93

That would make it too expensive. I think the Z4 fills that niche.

BMW reliability is near the bottom of auto manufacturers.

Unfortunately, nothing else in this price range drives like a BMW.

Not exactly, as i stated, expecting 2nd baby and needed a 4 door family car, and the reliability issue surely didn't help. But all in all, needed a more reliable family car before newborn arrive. And yes, many useful info here in this forum. Had i not been in this forum, i probly would have traded in for a 335i sedan and then hpfp fail and didn't even know why. So it's all good.

Also gives me an opportunity to look for a vert while wife is happy with the family car.

I guess you'd have to have a family to understand. I feel the same as OP, except I've actually been in for 11 unscheduled trips to the dealer in just over 2 years....

Kolyan , also the coupe was not practical with his 2 babys and the wife that's why you get 335i e90 =D m sport , and it's not like hpfp just goes off on you, you'll notice hard crank first thats when you bring it to service

What's a reliable Family car? The mazda 6?

The camry is supposed to be an amazingly reliable family car. Remember the recall issue with that car? Yes, Toyota apparently has a fix. But regardless...

All I can say is time has changed. As much as I love to keep the 300hp ultimate driving machine, I had to let it go. Had more things to consider now. It might be stupid to trade it in with no symptoms at all with any issue on the 335. Wife will be home and she will most likely to be the main driver. Hate to spend over $40k on a sedan just for her to go to supermarket or drive kids around.

Hanging up my turbo gloves and I see a vert in my future.

About 2 yrs ago i purchased a clk vert from a friend. He kept the car nice and clean, no prblem. After owning it for about a year, twice everything shut down on me with wife andy 3yo son (at that time) for no reason. Once on a merge to freeway and another off the entrance ram. All power was out, no power steering, nothing, restarted and it was find. Got rid of it right away. I coudn't take that risk anymore with the 335 waiting for it to happen, especially with a newborn coming.
Had i not been in this forum, and didn't know about the hpfp, then yes, maybe things would have been different, perhaps a 335 sedan. But the fact matter is that i did come to this forum and learn alot of things. All is good

Get an used 5-series or even 7-series (not 535i). Excellent family car with no HPFP issues.

Or get an X5 or X6.

Good luck.

I think the discussion of HPFP in this forum is scaring almost everyone - causing them to give up their 135i, 335i or 535i... and trade in for a different car that doesn't have any HPFP issues. Sheesh. Get a life. Be a man and don't be scared...

You'll have a different definition of "being a man" when you grow up and have a family.

Of course, the HPFP issue is one conjured up only by this forum and certain fear-mongers, right???

No, the problem isn't as big as it seems on the forum, but a man who has his priorities straight is totally within the realm of reason making a decision like this. Sure, keeping the car may be a rational decision too, but getting rid of it is not being "scared".

Too many damned KIDS on this forum.

Probably a good decision considering the family. ESPECIALLY if you have the means to get a 328 coupe to cheer you up
