If you continue to press the AUTO button it will select from 3 different positions show on my iDrive display under the fan speeds. The left selection is the lowest fan speed for auto, and right for the highest.
I don't know if this is available for non iDrive models. I feel stupid for not knowing this feature, but I am sure a lot of us don't know about it.

Will try this myself, different positions you mean air out of different vents?
BTW, can anyone tell me what is the difference between the two "air recirculation" positions? I know it is probably in the user manual somewhere but if I can get a quick answer here. |

The first one auto detects particulates in the air and switches to recirculate. I don't know details about how well it works though. The second sets it to recirculate no matter what.

As far as auto AC intensity, I have iDrive but never paid attention to it when I hit "auto" before. Good to know. |

Ok, this is cool. Had the car for 4.5 years now and did not know this. Car is unavailable right now, what happens if you don't have iDrive?

doesnt pop up on 06 iDrive (at least not on mine). but if you're on the automatic program settings screen when you press the auto button, you can see it switch.
