Not sure about a tub, but I've packed MRP and packetized protein powders in my checked luggage before and haven't had a problem yet.

No idea. You should contact your airport's support email and ask if it's ok. I'd hate to lose a tub...shit's kind of expensive.

I took a small size container of Optimum Protein in a carry on bag recently, when they scanned my bag through their machine they had to do a second screening, they opened the container and took a small sample, i assume they were testing for drugs and explosives, tested negative so they gave it back and i was good to go. Keep it in its original container to avoid problems.

Well some counties prohibit bringing in food products, you might also want to check the rules on that. Also, check bags usually are not as tightly screened. At most they may open your bag and check it out, not sure if they lease those nice notes saying that your bag was given the special treatment.

I'm in the baggage handling and screening system business, let me jump in here.
You are not going to have any problems with the TSA if it's in your checked luggage. The screening machines can detect explosives with very low error rate. Even if the machine falsely identify it as potential explosives, your bag will be routed to a TSO for Level 3 screening - explosive trace detection (ETD); where they will wipe a piece of cotton pad on the item in question and run it thru the machine and sniff it for explosives. It would even be ok if you bring it as a carry-on, BUT it might require addition screening like ETD and stupid questions from the TSOs. It's just a less of a hassle if you check it in with your luggage. However, I'm not familiar with the regulations pertaining to the importation of food items into the states. This is a US Customs and USDA thing, not the TSA. Correction: Just realized that you are flying out of the US. In that case, you have to check with the Customs of the country that you are visiting. |

You can't have a bottle of ANYTHING more than 3oz if its a liquid or a gel. They don't say anything about powders:
http://www.tsa.gov/311 It says anything else will need to be checked by a TSA agent in the bottom of that link. As others have said, call the airport and ask before bringing it or you might risk having to throw a brand new tub away. I brought back two oranges from Africa as a snack on the plane and when I landed in NYC they made me throw them away hahaha. SO the country you are going to may stop you in customs like the poster above mentioned and make you throw it away there. |

I personally would not carry anything on a plane except cloths, if the TSA are looking to make an example of someone and they seem to be in that mode recently, they and use having anything like this as reason to give you the extra special treatment. I am personally more interesting and just getting through verse having anyone opening my bags or touching me.
But as I said check with the local country rules on things like this. If I remember correctly Stallone got in trouble in Australia for bringing something like this into their country. |
