Waste gates problem

Hi I'm looking to purchase a 335i convertible 2007 with about 45 k miles. I took it to a specialist and he said the waste gates need to be replaced. Is this a big concern and can it cause future concerns if it's not attended too.

A procede will NOT take care of this. It will only mask the symptoms.

Depends if the problem is hardware or software related. Do you have rattling? Engine Cold, warm or both?
You cannot replace the wastegates, you need to change both turbos if the wastegates are not sealing.
What did the specialist say exactly? Does he know how these turbos are built?

needs to be fixed as the proceed only masks the rattling sound. if the bushing are really worn you could get a low boost CEL from the wastagates not sealing. some dealers just replace the wastgates, some give new turbos, but either way it should be fixed.

Yea I do have rattling and engine cold. I thought it was just the muffler that was rattling because only one side of the muffler works currently. But when I took it to BMW they said the waste gates are giving the problems. From hearing this, do you believe it is a minor issue? Or one that can cause damage to the wallet in the future?

Rattle #1 usually when driving slow, and when you start the car IS exhaust valve rattle. No big deal, just unplug the valve plug in the trunk. Dont really need it anyway.

Rattle #2 usually can hear when reving engine in N. This is wastegates. Can be a very big problem. Dealer procedure to fix: 1. Update all software, if not fixed: 2. Replace wastegates actuators, if not fixed: 3. Replace turbos

Lots of people including me and DEALER confuse #1 and #2

Mine stuck open and the car wouldn't build boost over 3 lbs. replaced the whole turbo and actuator. MAKE sure the car is under warranty, otherwise it could cost you a few grand...

BMW refused to replace my wastegates under factory warranty. They denied they could even hear the noise. The month after my BMW warranty expired, I took it in to the dealer and they immediately claimed they could hear the noise and that my turbos needed to be replaced. I have an aftermarket warranty which covered it. The total bill was over $4000 ($100 deductible only for me). If it wasn't for my aftermarket warranty, I'd be suing BMW for this crap.
