The dreaded HPFP
I know everyone hates this topic, but last week I received my recall letter and schedule it to be in the shop this past Tuesday (1/11). I picked the car up yesterday (1/12) and let me tell you this thing is a whole new car! (And that's a good thing!)
Now I am not sure if maybe the HPFP was affecting me so much before that it made the car feel what it should feel like now, but now there is absolutely no throttle response delay and no issues with acceleration what so ever. I know there are a lot people out there that said after receiving their car back from the dealership, that their car felt more sluggish after the software update and pump replacement, mine has had the opposite affect. On receipt from the dealership it only states that they replaced the pump and did no software update, even though I believe they have to at least access the computer to let it know there is a new pump. However I know for sure it did receive a software update a few months ago for prior service. But I have never had the pumped replaced before in the 50,000 the car has been around figured I would offer up my experience in the past two weeks. |

good to hear! Need some positive news regarding the pump issue. Seems lately there hasn't been many failures. Many BMW finally got something right?

Based just on reading the forums, I've gathered this:
-With some cars, getting the newer hpfp restores power that's slowly been lost over the years (just like changing spark plugs) -People complain about sluggishness, but that is probably attributable to the software update taking its time to adapt (or whatever technical engineering term you want to use) -There is no new power or lack of power; if there is, it is caused by one of the above effects. Oh man, when I first drove the car off the lot after my recall, I saw an opening in the traffic and drove into the road. My car was going through that phase where it was still adapting, and so my turbos didn't kick in. I almost got rear ended. Not only was it embarrassing, it was scary. I brought it back the next day; both the quality assurance team, and the lead tech couldn't find a problem with it because the software had adapted by then--or that's the only explanation I could think of. No problems since

Funny, got the letter, all has been good for 40k miles.
Then yesterday, my car was hesistating a few times, like missing while cruising down the road. Guess I need to call for an appt. and have it looked at/replaced, as well as the injector SB issue. Should probably get the oil changed while at it...

Mine wasn't so much during driving, but initial acceleration, and I didn't take ownership of my car till about 44k, so not sure when it started feeling like that.

I had the same story told to me a month ago, that not all cars are getting the fuel pump, but was asked about updating the software...maybe I should call BMW NA. Though I've had no failures yet, pump was replaced as part of CPO

Yeah I know everyone is tired of hearing about, but no one ever writes about the good stuff. If I was a newb to the forum, I would think that this car would blow at the slightest touch of the pedal. So figured I would put my positive spin on it.
