Anyone using a D90 + Nikon 18-200vrII
I have had a D90 for while now, and I use the Nikon 18-105mm with great results. Pictures are sharp, etc.
I now have the 18-200mm lens, and I find my pictures not as sharp and with much more noise in low light. I want to love this lens for the zoom, but find myself going back to the 18-105. Anyone in the same boat?

Hmm, I never had that problem when I had my D90 with the 18-200mm VR I lens. Check out my flickr.

they should be the same. Their aperture are the same but i'm sure it will make a difference if you're comparing 105mm to 200mm at f/5.6 with VR. Try using a tripod for the test.
Do you have ISO Sensitivity ON?

Everyone on the dpreview.com forums seem to agree that the 18-105 is a tad sharper then the 18-200..from approx 70mm+
18-70 they are the same.

Try setting it yourself in order to have a true comparison. But if I were to have 1 lens to choose from between the two, I'd go with 18-200.

I tried the 18-200 on my D200 - great zoom range, but to me the trade-off was weird vertical distortion around 100mm. Not noticeable with landscapes, but a very odd mix of both pincushion and barrelling evident in architectural photography.

out of all of my camera equipment, i will NEVER sell my D40 or my 18-200. they just get the freakin job done with little to no effort. |

I'm very pleased for you, but also a little curious as to exactly what a "freakin" job is.

HAHAHA !!!!
it's the american way of saying the lens works beautifully example: i freakin love this lens it's a less aggressive adjective than saying "i fucking love this lens !!!!" |

D5000's aren't the best when it comes to noiseless shots.
go shoot at 1100-1600 ISO with the D5000 and it will look like you sprinkled pepper all over your pictures HAHA !!!! |
