Is there any way to delay delivery?

I know that most of us would normally be looking to get our car sooner, but I have some reasons. First let me say that I originally made contact with my dealer in 10/06. Test drove the 335i and told him I wanted one to replace my S4 when the lease runs out on 6/6/07/ . I told him that it would be fine to take delivery in May if the car came in early. I also told him that I could manage a week or so if it was late. CA told me to check back after the new year.
Jan 8 I met with CA again and reintegrated my desires. He suggested that I put down a refundable deposit and order the car I did. So far I have a production number of 3597xxx status 111. Dealer told me that it is scheduled for week 11 build and will probably be here in late April. He also told me that if it came in April, I would be expected to take delivery before the end of April.
Here is the thing. I really don't want to pay for 2 lease payments in May. Not really a huge thing but I really don't want to shell out an additional $730 and have 2 cars when I only need one. I feel that if the car comes in early, the dealer should hold it until the end of May for me. Otherwise, I would want some type of compensation or discount from the dealer. BTW, they are selling me the car at $450 under MSRP. Am I off base here? I could easily use the $750 to buy some mods or put it toward new rims and tires.

Since your status is still 111 you should be able to have them bump it back a month. They can swap from within their own allocation. They might be resistant, but be really nice to your CA and maybe offer to buy him dinner and some beers.

Good luck!

At first I was gonna say you should take delivery early, but then your numbers just changed my mind. At $450 below MSRP, I'd just cancel the deal and buy from another dealership. Unless things have gotten far worse, back in Oct. the offers I got were $1100 to $1800 off.

And you are right the way you're looking at it--if you were renting apartments, you would not simply pay for two when you could only live in one. If you couldn't time it so you go from one to the other with no overlap, then you'd let one expire, find temporary quarters, and then move into the next. In this case, do without a German luxury car for 1-4 wks and rent a car instead. Why as you said throw away $700+?

The timing may be far off if you order tomorrow elsewhere, but I wouldn't ignore the discount they offered you. I'd just cancel and move on....my .02.

The CA should have no problem delaying your order. Sooner is always better for anyone in sales but, if it makes you happy it should make your CA happy. And the 335 sedans are drying up on local dealer lots by me.

FYI, I ordered a coupe and don't want a sedan. Apparently I was not clear on that.

Coupes are not abundant at this time. You probably need to order one if you want a certain color or options.

I have no doubt that a coupe must be ordered--my point is this poster got only $450 off. That's overpayment by at least $1300 in my estimate. On top of that, he's paying $700 more in leasing two cars, so that's 2 grand. Even if I were a radiologist, I would not throw two grand away just because I didn't go to the trouble of arranging for a smooth transition. I'd throw 2 grand away on taking my family on vacation, taking myself on vacation, saving in the IRA, etc. 2 grand is something imho.

Dude, I am getting $1700 off MSRP..just renegotiate a deal with another dealer..and extend your S4 lease one month if you have to wait.

Audi will only extend your lease on a monthly basis if you are waiting for another Audi. Otherwise you can only extend it yearly.

When I emailed california dealers for internet pricing I was immediately offered $2k off sticker (granted I was willing to drive to pick up my car and emailed every dealer from norcal to santa barbara) In the end i got it down to $1200 over invoice and that includes MACO and the fees so closer to $3k off invoice. Unless you don't have a lot of dealers near you or are not willing to drive and write emails there are much better deals to be had for coupes

I live basically between NYC and Philly, but coupes are VERY scarce around here right now.

I guess it's a bit different in the states as over here everyone stalls for the registration plate change (1st March and 1st September). So dealers are well used to having to hold cars for a month or two until the plate change. I do however make sure that my order is annotated to that effect before placing the order, and agree a latest delivery date as well just in case.

I'd would go back to your CA and point out that you agreed that you would take the car in May or June. That he agreed to this and so you expect to take delivery then.

If he gets snotty about it then you can point out that you have only made a refundable deposit and that you would have to think about cancelling if he isn't going to meet the terms that you agreed.

Start off nice, get stoppier, and if you have to get loud make sure the sales floor is full of potential customers at the time.

DrGP....

Not true...I asked for an extension of one month...they gave it to me..then I got my ABS (audi brand specialist) to say that I had a car on order (fake order he was putting in for his inventory) and I could extend another 90 days. You can work the system... Just get a nice ABS to help you. Tell him you will be back when the B8 comes... :-)

That is exactly what I have decided to do(but i won't embarrass the CA or myself since the CA is actually a decent guy.) If it does not work to my advantage, I will either try to have another dealer locate a car for me or order another car and drive my son's winter beater for a month.
