OEM iPod Cable Question

Kind of a stupid question, but i'm new to e90s and bmw's in general but, i just bought an oem iPod cable and it seems to be doing the same thing a normal 3.5mm stereo cable does.

Is this the case or am I missing something?

I thought it would charge, or allow steering wheel controls, or display something on the radio...

The music goes through the headphone jack (unfortunately).

Track info does display on my radio and I can control it from the steering wheel though. Does the cord you have plug into the USB and 3.5mm ports?

The cable should be Y-shaped. Connecting to the vehicle, it should connect to both a stereo jack and USB port.

The stereo mini-jack is for the audio and the USB port is for the vehicle control and charging.

You might not have a USB port in the console. It is an option and not all cars have it. If you don't have it, there's no need for a Y cable.

You're missing something. You cannot have steering wheel controls (well you can have volume control) w/ just an aux cable.

In order to control an ipod, you also need the ipod integration option installed. Without it, the OEM adapter won't work more than a basic cable.

Just got my car today and found an IPOD/USB dealy-o in a bag. Window sticker shows this as a $400 option? In my 06 E90 I plugged my IPOD into the center console "headphone type jack" So what does this one give me? Ability to change tracks on the IPOD by steering controls? Anything else? Thx

You can change tracks, see album/artist info, choose playlists, and search by artist/genre.
