If you look at the path that the car took, there were more people on the left hand side of the road that he avoided. I suspect the passenger of the car would have been a person of interest to the angry mob. I'm not going to say that the driver did the wrong thing.

there was a pretty clear path they could have went through. the center of the road was mostly clear. would have maybe just run over a couple people and would have gain more speed.

could have been any number of reasons why he veered into a group of people. you don't know why. i'm not giving him the benefit of the doubt but let's be a little more critical of the situation here. they could have had rocks, guns, etc...could have been no other way out..
