Flywheel chatter

I have 50k on a bone stock 335. I have noticed what sounds like flywheel chatter shifting from 1-2, somtimes 2-3, and occasionaly at idle. I dont think its the throw out bearing as the sound that makes is different. Anybody have heard this before? The sound can best be decribed as a diesel engine. The shifts are at low speeds. TIA

drive line slack, clutch chatter, etc....my e46 m3 did the same, sometimes very loud and was still running fine at 125,000 miles. Try this....start the car, take it out of gear and take your foot off the clutch and shut off the engine and see if you get that rattle as the engine stops. Now do the opposite and turn off the car with the clutch pedal pushed in...it should not be as loud, but it will tell you if the noise is clutch related. I believe my E90 has similar drive line noises as my m3, but not as loose and rattly.

i get this noise too. Is it supposed to be normal? or could it mean a loose clutch?

don't know if a clutch can be loose or not, however most of all my BMW's (m3 and 335) and Audi S4 had this clutch/flywheel type rattle, especially when you shut off the engine without the clutch engaged. I am told the slack in the drive line is engineered into the car. If you ever take off your shifter boot and all that insulation below it where you can see down to the ground...you will easily hear that slack. I chased down that rattle on my m3 for months and finally put all the insulation back and just lived with it.

My e90 330i 6 speed does this too.
Mostly noticeable during idle but it goes away when clutch is depressed.
They call it normal - the flywheel chatter.
I complained about it with the dealer and under the warranty they replaced my clutch.
Unfortunately, when i got the car back the rattle is there and it didn't make any difference whatsoever.
The car still runs good and so far I haven't had any problems with it in general.
I see a lot of people saying that this is normal on 6 speed manual cars...
