Austin sucks.

You can't have nice things in Austin. I was there for 30 minutes parked street side near a stop light. I was literally sitting on a bench next to my car when some idiot with a Chrysler Sebring backs up into my car.

Not only was it an illegal place to park, but he had a ball hitch attached which punched a 1.5 inch indentation into my bumper. Estimates were $700 and he could only offer $100, so I decided to file a claim with his insurance. We'll see how it goes come Monday when the rep is supposed to call me.

I went and drove Lime Creek Road... it's incredible. Definitely check it out if you're not afraid of a big accident in the middle of nowhere.

I love austin, my car hates it. I usually leave my car in a safe spot and use public transport or a cab.

I've lived here in the Austin area a total of 14 years now, and spent a total of 9 years in the Houston area. I definitely prefer Austin; much smaller city (Houston is nation's 4th largest city) and there is far less danger to your car. Sorry about the incident, but there are idiots everywhere. You had the bad luck to encounter one. Look at it this way...maybe now you have an opportunity to get an M-sport bumper?

I grew up in TX, mostly in DFW, did my undergrad at Baylor, but never lived in Austin before. Moving back to TX (Austin) in the summer time for work though I hate New England and can't wait to get out of here! Hope to meet some of you guys then!

Sorry about your car OP. Like everyone else said, it can happen to anyone anywhere.

Austin Rocks!, I don't live in Austin, but every time I go, I have a blast.. I am originally from Newark, NJ and if that would of happen to you there, the idiot would of never offered 100 bucks, he would of never stopped. Bottom line, idiots are everywhere, but I would of never judged a city cause of the idiots living in it. Regardless, I feel your pain, I was rear ended three weeks ago and I am getting the run around from the Idiot's Insurance (as you can see there are idiots in just about every state, but here are idiots with bigger trucks, LOL).

used to drive it every friday afternoon in my m3, driving the speed limit is still pretty scary but 50+ yellow signs telling you theres a sharp curve coming up and to slow down to 15mph makes for a great windows down cruise around the lake.

first day out with the 135 i followed an 80's 911 gt3 rs down the entire stretch, gotta love this town...

Lime Creek Rd is indeed awesome -- so is Old Spicewoord Springs Rd and Mt. Bonnell Rd. Spicewood Springs is a woodsy drive and Mt. Bonnell has some fantastic views of the lake. Both are partially residential and much shorter than Lime Creek, but they're both a lot of fun and well worth the effort.

I have a ~50-mile circuit I drive on weekends when I want to just drive. Going from Point D to E isn't a lot of fun; it's just to connect the dots. But otherwise, this is a great set of roads: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...,0.264187&z=13

Go. I recommend going on a weekend before 11 AM. It's only one lane in each direction with no passing zones (because there's no safe place to pass even illegally) so you need to go when there aren't other cars out. Early weekends seems to do the trick; the most cars I've encountered at those times has been 3 (never any cops), and when I see one I usually just pull off to the side for 2-3 minutes -- less than that and I catch up to them too soon.

On a more serious note, take it slower the first few times and definitely keep DSC on. The roads are fairly narrow with either a guardrail or a ditch on the side, many turns are blind, and some areas frequently have sand/gravel on the road that can mess with your traction. I've gradually increased my speed as I've gotten to know the road but even now I limit myself to around 65 on the straights because it's still a public road and I go to the track to do more than that.

I'm from Houston and would agree. I have yet to go to Austin but need to at some point.
I would like to add Waco as the armpit of Texas, it occasionally looks good (Baylor) but its hard to cover up the stench.
