Why is it so damn hard to find the car I want....!

It's been a long 3 months of car deliberation and I think I've finally decided my budget and the config for the car I'll keep for the next 8 years.

LCI E90 328i w/steptronic/sport/premium/heated seats/xenon/idrive, under 30k miles. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I'll be able to get this for around $34k after negotiation. M-sport would be a plus, and I'll pay the extra ~1k to have it.

Space grey with most preferably coral red interior, but I'll settle for grey/black/beige. Aluminum trim preferred, but other trims are fine as well.

I don't want to spend more than $35k.

Other than looking on Autotrader/Craigslist/BMWNA CPO Search, are there any other search engines I could use?

No idea, 35k gets you a cpo 335i coupe, not sure why you're unable to find a 328

Due to my job for which I travel a lot and the fact that my area has tons of traffic/harsh traffic violation penalties, I realized that I would appreciate a newer interior with better creature comforts. Thus I'm choosing LCI.

You get the newer I-Drive as well, plus you won't have to look at that FUGLY moustache on the hood.

Too bad the big mirrors come along for the ride. The question was the $ amount--it's on the generous side, so there should be no problem picking up a car this afternoon imho.

problem is, no dealerships around me have e90 LCI 328i's w/sport package. most have x-drives, which i don't believe is necessary for the DC/NoVA area. finding one with m-sport is even more rare.

then there's this car: http://www.selectautoimports.com/veh...Virginia-22310
(they just got it in so no photos yet)

but it has MT, and this area has too much traffic for me to go for it.

I picked up my LCI '09 CPO 335i, with everything but PDC and adaptive cruise, for 33,600 out the door. It was local to me, but you should be able to get a great deal, if you are willing to drive a few hours away, or have a car shipped to you. Expand your search area a bit.

Spend a few more hundred bucks and expand your search.

It wouldn't be hard to find that combo, the only issue is that you're really out of the ballpark with lease returns right now. Earliest model is an 09, which only few would be coming off 36 month lease right now.

how did you find this deal??

best i can think of is an e90 2009 328i with m-sport/premium/nav listed for 34600 at a hendrick dealership in charlotte...

i figured i'll buy it if i offered them 28k since it'd been on their lot for 2.5 months now, but heh no, wouldn't budge.

My understanding is that the coral red interior is only available on the coupes and convertible models. It was not an option (even for custom builds) for the e90 Sedan.

If you deselect the interior color option in your searches, maybe a bunch of cars will mysteriously show up!

The car before my BMW, a Land Rover LR3, I ended up going to eimports4less.com. I found them in my Land Rover search while on ebay, but you don't have to make your purchase through ebay for the vehicle you want.

I was going to use them again, but decided I wanted to build my BMW brand new.

They have plenty of 3-series well under your range and with around 20k miles. If you're in the DC area, Philly isn't that far away. My Land Rover transaction was as smooth as possible and I worked with them over email before I drove there (from Buffalo, NY) to pick up the Rover. They were very honest, etc.

I am sure they will have no problem doing the search for you from auction blocks.

If you do go with them, rent a car one-way from your DC airport to the Philly airport. Pick up your car and drop the rental off and drive your new purchase back home.

haha, yes, you are absolutely right. so definitely i wouldn't find a coral red interior.

if there was only a used car factory, i would be placing an order right now.

Thanks so much for the tip. I've never heard of the site. I just did a search and found a pretty rare car, almost exactly what I was looking for except it doesn't have I-drive. I'll definitely keep a watch on their inventory.

Do you know if they have any negotiation on their price, or is it no-haggle?
Thanks!

I purchased from Leith in Raleigh, it was President's day, near the end of the month and business was slow. They were asking $35,800, and I probably could have done better, but I had them buy my E55 for what I was about to sell it for privately, in order to take advantage of the tax savings. I also got back $2047 on my extended warranty for the Benz, outside of the sales transaction, so I came out even further ahead overall, since the private party price, included the warranty to the buyer.

If you do call them, ask for Mike, he was great to work with.

If I remember correctly, the sticker price on the Land Rover I believe was $21k, I offered them $18k and we settled on $18700. So their was some room. I even think wen they first had the vehicle they had it $23k, but I am not sure - my memory is fuzzy now. The vehicle had a late November 2005 in-service with 29k miles. I bought it in 2009.

It was also during very high gas prices so I think larger vehicles took a dip during that time. I also secured my own financing prior with my local credit union, so the transaction was the best I ever had, barely used their time.

Hard to get exactly the options you want in the used market locally. It's not a good idea to get a car you haven't seen shipped out of your local area, even if it's a BMW dealership.

You gotta either make compromises or suck it up and buy a new one. Also, since you want an LCI, the price different isn't THAT much. Pop a new car's cherry and call it a day.

Just as an aside: You can get away without xdrive in DC - but if you go for the sports package you will need snow tires, since temps still do drop to below freezing. Sports package vehicles come with summer tires, not all seasons, and you pretty much can't use summer tires when its below 40F.

price difference is around 13k... for new vs 2009. 10k for a 2010 model.

I totally know what OP is saying! I searched for 4 months to find a 335i that would work. I too REALLY wanted one with the ///MSport package and just couldn't find one in the right color combination. My local BMW dealer was WORTHLESS in helping me - if it's not on their lot, they aren't interested. As I expanded my search to entire US, I even considered stepping up to an '09 M3 to get something cool. Everytime I would find something close to what I wanted there'd always be something not right...wrong transmission or wrong interior color or no heated seats or no Sport package or a big old dent in the bumper cover...always something wrong. So I gave up on the ///MSport dream this time and found a new leftover 2010 with 170 miles near Cleveland OH marked down from $51,000 window to $42,000 and compromised. But yeah, had to drive 600 miles to find it! Keep searching.
