2006 325i Overheating Code p0597 "Thermostat heater control circuit open"

I have a 2006 bmw 325i 3.0L E90. Car has been overheating and got a code of P0597 Thermostat Heater control circuit open. I replaced the thermostat with a new aluminum Wahler unit. Just drove it for 10 miles and it overheated again. The lower radiator hose going into the thermostat is a lot cooler than the other hoses, so it looks like it's still not getting a signal to open the thermostat when it get warmed up. Anybody have a solution? Much appreciate it, it's
s driving me crazy...
