this just showed up on the dash...

couldn't find it in the manual and i don't want to bring the car in just yet

That's a reminder to take your car in for the smog check if your jurisdiction requires periodic testing.

If your area doesn't require testing (or testing on that particular interval) the your manual tells you how to clear that message.

the "paragraph" sign indicates a regulatory check and the exhaust pipe means emissions.
