paint - scratches?

hi.
so i was just wondering, is it easier to get scratches (swirl marks, little bits of scraches) on a non-metallic paint?
for example, would it be easier to get scratch marks on a alpine white/jet black paint compared to metallic paints?
thanks.

Not easier to get, just easier to notice. The metal flake makes fine scratches and swirls harder to see.

also, what about when your comparing between jetblack (non metallic) and sapphire black (metallic)? is jetblack more prone to scratches/swirl marks?

I do believe reading in the detailing section that JB and the other non metallics are more prone because the paint is much softer

Darker you go, the worse the swirls are (softer paint). Not sure if the metallics get less swirls, or they just aren't as visible since it's not a solid color.

I do know solid black is brutal for swirls/scratches. Looks awesome when it's cleaned up, but a PITA to keep that way.

All white cars will yellow a bit over the years, usually on the bumpers (plastic) areas rather than the paint. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you plan to keep the car forever.

Very much so. While any dark color will show swirls/scratches, Jet Black is notorious for being difficult to keep looking nice.

Correct, the detail forum will be able to give you more expert advice, but I know even my BSM is prone to scratches, although a good detail will remove 80-90% of them. Heck, all colors are equally prone to swirls/scratches, we're really just talking about what's easier to notice them on.

Jet Black is a comparatively soft paint, therefore it does get swirls easily. Not to mention it takes a lot of effort to keep it looking good as it shows every dirt particle.

But cleaned up, JB is an excellent color.
