Iron-x alternative

Can someone please recommend me a product similar to Iron-x BUT one that is safe to use on chrome wheels...it will be used to remove baked-on brake dust that will not come off with regular wheel cleaners. Thanks everyone!

Have you tried Sonax, i switched over to it and i will not use anything else anymore at this point. It's not acidic either so it should'nt harm your chrome wheels.

Thanks for the quick responses. So Sonax should take off severe brake dust??
It's for a friend's Escalade with chrome wheels that, until yesterday, has not been washed in 6+ months...Here is a pic after the wheel was washed multiple time with CG diablo wheel gel.

Sonax may be good. But your gonna need to put a little elbow grease into it. Agitate like crazy with some brushes. Some that are decently stiff but not overkill.

Maybe... but in the case of the OP's Escalade, the wheel will likely need to be re-finished. There's no simple solution to neglect and abuse: the permanent damage to the "chrome-clad" finish of that wheel is from severe pitting and etching from brake dust. No wheel cleaner is going to fix that. Even if you remove the black baked-on dust that is there, you'll see the permanent damage that remains.

Chrome wheels, black paint, light colored leather, and suede are much like kids: not everyone can handle the responsibility they demand. Many people like chrome and black paint because of how it CAN look. Few take proper care of either and in a few years they end up looking as old and tired as a mid 90's Kia design.

The SONAX Wheel Cleaner Full Effect is gentle and highly effective on chrome and really all finishes. If you have any questions please let me know.

For badly brake dust soiled surfaces use C.Quartz IronX or Sonax Wheel Cleaner both are formulated with neutralised acid salt. Spray onto wheel surface; allow reacting, and then agitating with a wheel brush before hosing off.

Caution – do not use either of these products on compromised (curbed, flaking or pitted chrome) as they will damage the nickel coating underneath leading to plating failure.

I'll order some Sonax today, however, I agree MuttGrunt; the wheels may in fact need refinishing. Thanks again for the responses everyone.
