Scratch repair

I got a long and deep scratch on my rocker panel. I've searched on this site for guidance on scratch repair and I'll try to fill the scratch with touch up paint paint. Before I start filling the scratch, I will need to sand the area around the scratch to remove the flaky paint. What grit sandpaper should I be using before starting to paint? What grit(s) should I be using before bringing out the polisher?
Thanks

PS: If you let your wife drive a car with sport package, gently remind her that there are these things called curbs on either side of the road.

You should work your way up to the finest grit available to you before polishing....I usually go up to 3000 grit, then use an abrasive polish, a finishing polish, seal, and wax.

Have you looked at the DIY on how to paint using a pre-mixed aerosol can? The DIY actually covers re-spraying a side skirt.

I can't seem to find the DIY thread. Can you link it?
Thanks

It's risky. I would never repaint like this. I only use sand paper to sand out chips I have filled in with touch up paint. Then, polish, seal, and wax.

But the process in the DIY looks proper.

Thanks for the link.

It does look quite risky. I think I'll try touchup and Langka first.
