Refurbished alloy wheels - A poor job?
Alright guys. Just had all four wheels refurbished at a main dealer. They've come back with following faults:
1 - Hair and dirt has been lacquered over on one of the areas on a particular wheel. 2 - All the bolt recesses on each wheel have been left only partly sprayed - can see a clear line between silver paint and old colour. 3 - Some daft sod in the washing department has gone and put swirl marks all over the paint work with a sponge. Had spent ages getting the paint in tip top condition. Here is where I need the benefit of other peoples experience. Point 1 is unacceptable Point 2 is this normal or are they blowing smoke up my chufty? The wheels had been refurbished previously by the same company and there was no discernible line on the wheel bolt recesses. Anyone else had wheels refurbed by main dealer? Point 3 - Have told them they can polish all the lovely swirl marks out. As always any advice greatly appreciated. Cheers Daz |

You will notice the paint washout marks on new OEM wheels in the wheel bolt holes.

Sounds like they have done a very half-arsed job. My advice tell them you are not happy and want your money back, then go to somewhere like http://www.solwayblastcleaning.co.uk or http://www.cumbriaplatingservices.co.uk and get them vapour blasted and powder coated.

I have had two wheels done at my local dealer and both times they have lacquered brake dust in. Both times i am told that the wheel "is the same as the others"
i just did not have the time to properly clean the wheel before taking the car in - lesson learned........... |

Just had a full set of mine done at the dealers, two quite good, one average and one poor with a large run on the inside of the rim.
I have already informed the dealer who are going to take a look the next time I visit them. At least they removed all the wheel weights this time, on a previous car they just sprayed straight over them !! The only good thing is that they are guaranteed for two years. |

Personally I would either leave my wheels damaged (they don't need to be perfect) or get them properly refurbished - stripped, sandblasted, and powder coated from scratch. Anything in between is a hash job.

Go direct - dealers charge comedy markup and often choose average refurbers.
Had mine properly chemically stripped, machines, repainted and lacquered about six months ago and they still look like new wheels. |
