Saphire Black - Hiding Details on E92?

Hi,

is this just me or is black really hiding some of the cars details? Especially if you look at the side of the car. It seems that the color is "swallowing" away some of the lines. You almost can't see the door at certain light levels.

The car also feels smaller to me.

What do you think?

Oh and eventually I would like to know from you guys whether to take Black or Space Grey, because I can SO not decide on this I like black better when looking at the front. More agressive and the chrome details come out better (like the grill), same for the headlights. But looking at the car from the side, I like Space Gray much better. The car seems longer and the details come out better. With that color you can really tell it's a coupé. Opinions?

Thanks

I got black on purpose because it hides the lines...

I'm so used to my E46 M3's perfect masculine lines that its hard for me to like another car....

same reasoning behind clothes with the look of the size. black= smaller. white= larger.

the black gets you both the looks easily but trying to get the space grey a aggressive look would require alot more exterior mods.

Space grey though like you said, shows the details better and they would accent CF parts better then black on the other hand.

have you decided how far or what direction you want to take the car with. if you're keeping the exterior of the car stock, whether you want the aggressive race look or class, sporty look.

My present car 330cd is sapphire black.

Your are right, that black hides the lines and make the car smaller.

Some people mean black is cool and it is a modern and stylish color. Yes it is.

But by the time it is not interesting any more and boring. Meanwhile there too many black cars.
And you have to clean a lot. Black is only beautyful when it is sparkling.

I need not to hide me so I can also present my car.

So my new 335i Coupe will have AW. This is the opposite.
And with some flash points you can underline the shape additionally...

In alpine white It looks very virgin and with M-Package aggressiv at the same time ...

How do you say?

Be different from other Germans and choose other colour than black!! My suggestion is Lemans blau, that is what I will have hopefully soon... perfect colour for E92!!

Hi and greetings to Mannheim (i stayed there for a longer week end last year - a am sure i will return this year for some days!!!)

I just ordered a sapphire-black E91.
It is my 5th car and tere were all black!

You are right saying "smaller" and "swallowing" but black is beautifull.

Ok, for the moment blue and white are the stylishest colors, but black will be TOP in 5 years too (white and blue will be out)

First i thought taking a grey but i dont like the gray BMW has.
There is only one gray that is fine - it is only available for the 92/93.
It is a dark grey, i don´t know exact name.
If i could have ordered it for my e91, perhaps i had taken this…

Noooo, in 5 years youre going to be looking for another car or having yours repainted because black shows EVERY flaw in vehicles. Oh and black has been around for a while, so I dont think it'll be TOP in 5 years.

White and blue are sexy. Black is a headache.

I have Jet Black... It's some work to keep it clean. The lines of the car pop when the car is spotless. When the car is less than spotless, some of the lines do get swallowed up. I think the silver colors really show the lines nicely.

I will absolutely not do ANY mods on the car, so I will drive a stock one. If that makes any difference.

I think if the Space Gray wouldn't hide the front details so much (the grill just blends in and doesn't stand out) I would go for the gray. Although I think it doesn't shine and sparkle as much as it should.

Damn I didn't know it will be such a hard decision to make.

In photos, it is true that black may not show off the door crease as much, or whatever. But in person -- as long as it is clean -- black looks the best. Always.

You seem to be in a similiar dilemma like me. I was undecided on colors till I went to showroom. Sapphire Black is a very Elegant color, The car looks classy in it. Space Grey on the other hand is a boring color, and on cloudy days looks even more boring. The car looks bland in it. You got to see the coupes park next to each other to see which color looks good.

SB might be high maintenance color but looks awesome when clean.

Hi,

I had also same dilema. Except I wanted space grau for my e90 with M-kit and it was not possible so I have chosen saphire black. But with e93 if I were you I like space grau. Go for it it suits that car.

Best of luck!

as with a lot of threads here, there is no right answer

personally, i think black hides the lines, and as i'm prob getting the m-sport i'd like to see them. I also think it only looks good when clean, & it's hard to keep clean

if you think it looks better, then get it.

Well black is my favorite color, and it suits %90 of the cars perfectly. It s a very elegant yet very charismatic color for a car.

However, I don't feel this way when we consider e92. As you said, it swallows all of the details and you're left with a much more basic lokking car. The beauty of the new coupe is in its agressive lines so I'd rather choose another color than black...

Also its hard to keep it clean and mint. Space gray suits the car really good. But I d prefer TiAG for a more sportier look...

I wanted to like black as well. (My '01 was black...loved that car).
But like you...the side view looks flat...and boring. It hides the body contours. Almost looks like a Honda Accord Coupe in some light.

Sparkling, Space and Silver....I liked all of these.

Bought Sparkling as it hides the the spacing between the body panels...yet reflects the body contours. I thought it was more aggresive color than the others.

Silver is cool...sharp...racey...but in the end, I like more solid colors...darker colors.

Space to me is handsome at first, then a little boring....not as solid a color...has less punch to it.

Now, having said all of that...forget what I said above....Get what you like. ....not what everyone else likes. I bought a car once...a popular color...all my friends urged me to get it. But it wasn't me....and I never really liked the car.

i had a second thought after i orderd my sapphire black but after i got it i know i made the right choice because the metalic looks very shining under the sun after wax and hides dirt well too

and yes...when i look at my black i felt its smaller too

thanks for your opinions guys!

I am still undecided. For some reason, none of the colors seem to be the killer color for me. When I bought me E90, I didn't even look at other colors, I chose Sparkling Graphite right away when I saw the first press pictures of the car. I love that color. But in my opinion it suits the E90 better than the E92. And I need something new. So Sparkling is out. I liked silver too, but silver is the most popular car color in Germany, so the streets are full of silver cars. So that's a no-go too. Actually it's almost the same with black, plus black hides too much of the car as I said. Remains Space Gray, but I have my concerns with that color as well and I am not 100% with it (looks bland under certain light conditions, tends to be boring, hides the front details). I wish the had some of the silverish gray tones they offer on the 6 series. Also, there are some nice colors in the "individual" range, but they are oh so expensive.

Damn.
