11.26 at 127.79mph At Famoso w/no LSD
Did some runs last night at Famoso. Definitely better than Fontana.
But at the time of the run, the DA was still over 1300FT. And as you can see by the flag in the picture, there was a strong direct cross wind. My best 60' time was 1.830. Running a 1.7 could put this right below a 11.0 ET. But I'm convinced its pretty futile trying to get a good 60' time without a LSD at these power levels. In the pursuit of a 10 second slip, the launch is way more valuable than adding 10 hp or so. Its amazing how just a slightly bad launch will ruin your times. And even on a run with a horrible ET, you can still have one of your best traps. On the other hand, the Nittos aren't hardcore DRs like the Hoosiers, as I drive around on them, and made the 300 mile round trip there on them. Not as much grip, but certainly less hassle than changing tires/wheels at the track. But I still think a LSD is essential, as I can't even get my tires to heat up evenly with a warm up burnout. Unfortunately this run was made 10 minutes after my first run of the night that I screwed up by leaving the JB4 2nd gear boost limit set at 9psi. I think a proper cool down would have yielded a better trap. My last run still yielded a 127.91 mph trap, after 5 full qtr mile passes. 3 additional passes were aborted due to excessive wheel spin, and the car going sideways in 2nd gear. The Vbox was accurate as usual, with a 1mph higher trap than the time slip. Hence, the 11.2 ET I predicted I would get at the track is exactly what I left with. Unfortunately a sea level track is not to be had around here. Driving up to Sacramento presents a dilemma also. Make the 800 mile trip up there, and then be shut down for running quicker than a 11.5 with no roll cage. That would be a serious waste of time if you didn't get a spectacular first run before getting booted. The 11.26 Et was still one of the best times for a street car out there. It is still such a mild mannered car. Whisper quiet exhaust, etc. This time from Agoura to Famoso I averaged 32.2 mpg. Car was on --- empty, I put in 7 gallons, and still had 83 miles range left when I arrived at the race track. Interestingly enough, one of the quickest street cars out there was a Ferrari 458 Italia. The last time here, I saw a Red one. I believe it ran high 11's. (It did only have 700 miles on it though). This time the guy in a black one definitely knew had to launch the thing. His first run was a 11.1 ET at somewhere around 125-126mph. The thing was on the factory low profile street tires! He did have some custom high flow cats+?? Sweet $300,000 car though. Thoroughly a classic Italian design, with some high tech video displays for the cluster. The analog gauges are displayed on a LCD screen. Kind of like a GTR. From the Road And Track Summary: 458 Italia 11.0 at 128.5mph, 0-60: 3.0 sec. (Motor Trend: 11.1 sec) C6 ZO6 11.9 at 123.5mph, 0-60: 3.6 sec C6 ZR1 11.5 at 128.7mph, 0-60: 3.5 sec Yeah, I know, someones friend's Z06 ran 10's at the track..but you get the point, the 458 is a pretty impressive machine. I think the rear engine design must help traction immensely. I did 3 qtr mile runs the night before, so I got 8 qtr mile runs on the same bottle, with the last trap still at 127.91mph. Remember, during the Sacramento trap speed error days..this would have been a 130.5mph run. FYI: My coupe was capable of trapping a full 3mph faster than the sedan, and 1 second quicker in the 60-130. Remarkable with a smaller jet and meth nozzle to add to the mystery. I'm not going to try the JB3 in the sedan though. After using the JB4 nitrous integration, you realize how well it works, its just not worth the risk without it. You can set your minimum boost, rpm, WOT, timing, AFR, limits to control nitrous deactivation windows. Pretty slick setup. And you can see it all on the graphs. FYI..the run was done on about 15psi avg boost. I think if I didn't screw up the first run, on a new bottle, and lower DA, it might have been closer to 10's. But as always..its getting all the factors to line up for a 10 second qtr mile....But with the N54, its only a matter of time.....Especially when the cooler winter temps come around again.

Congrats!! Thats rather impressive.
I know you have a quick car and I was trying to look at your profile to see what mods you have. So besides JB4 what else you have in that thing? |

This was done on a 046 jet, and CM10 nozzle. FYI. the coupe ran a 028 and CM5 Nozzle! This car still clocks 11.6 at 123 mph on meth, pump gas.
Stock turbos, stock intercooler, stock rear cat back. 2.5" URs, Passenger seats removed. 17K1, Nitto 555R/NT01R JB4, BMS DCI. Really no high dollar mods, or anything that couldn't be removed in one day. The down pipes are the only heavy install items. I still have never noticed any significant trap speed increase from the downpipes, however, they probably are necessary at higher exhaust flow rates with nitrous. Trans shifting is working good with the JB4 nitrous integration, as you can set the shift delays, etc. Time to update my signature again, lol.

I'd be willing to bet that an FMIC would do nothing for you on the dragstrip. Doubt you'd be able to get any cooler IATs after meth and N20. It might even be a hinderance as upgraded FMICs usually weigh more than the stock POS.
Exhaust prob wouldn't do you much help besides the slight weight reduction.

Yup...the temps cooled.down later...but the traction got worse. Either way...it was good seeing you and everyone else.

In before cn555ic complaining about JB4 having nitrous integration while he doesn't
Nice times though as usual. With an LSD and a proper burnout with MT's I bet you could hit the 10's |

I wonder if the sedan is running slower traps specifically because of the nitrous control. Even though you were running a smaller jet size, you were on the juice longer periods of time most likely as you were engaging earlier, and running it through the shifts.
no arguing that how it is set up now is both better and safer for both motor and transmission though. All about the balance of power and control when it comes to the giggle juice. |
