Tint in SoCal.....

So I've been reading posts here and there about tint on the forum, but no real concrete answer. If I missed it previously I apologize in advance if this sounds redundant...

Is tint completely illegal in CA? If not and there is an actual limit, what is it? 35%? 50% Any thoughts would be great. SUmmer's coming up and I don't really want to fry in my car.

In California it is illegal to have the front windows tinted. You can have the rear tinted as dark as you want. A lot of people still get the fronts tinted, but they will tell you that they are not responsible and make you sign a waiver before starting a job.

I've had the fronts tinted on my car and 2 previous cars. First car had 5% all around and the other 2 cars have 35% on the fronts. I've had no trouble with the police at all.

IMO it's all luck. I have friends with 5% and double 5% driving around for years and got nothing from the law. And I have friends with 20% driving with the windows down got pulled over and asked to roll the windows up. The ticket is usually a fix it ticket.

I have always had the fronts tinted as well.. luckily i've never gotten a fix it ticket (cause then I'd have to remove it) but i have gotten a non moving violation ticket for the tint that came with a $110.00 fine. The court explained that rather than fix it tickets they will continue to fine People and the fee goes up everytime you get it... Im cool with that!!!
