I am planning to swap out my current wheels with a new set, but keep the tires -- 80% certain.

Separately, I plan to have the car professionally detailed -- that's 100% certain.

Would folks recommend that I have the wheels changed before detailing? I am reluctant to have anyone else touch my baby after she's been detailed.

Thoughts?

you can detail the car first, and then before you replace the wheel. give you new wheel a full detail.

have the car detailed
remove the wheels from the car and have those detailed, along with the suspension components
install original wheels back on the car
purchase new wheels and swap out the tires to the new wheels
apply a sealant wax like rejex or bfwd to the new wheel if painted
sell old wheels or keep for winter wheels (but why swap tires at that point, just buy a new set of tires for the new wheels!)

thats what I would do....

oh and I would also make sure you are having DJ Mayo of reflections detailing in NO. VA do your car!!!!

I believe he is asking for the sake of the wheel shop possibly ruining the detail job by touching the car, leaning on it, etc.

I would just make sure they know not to put their hand all over it and to be careful

I'm buying OEM 313's... Just wheels is $2300 vs tire and wheel package $3800 ... plus I haven't decided if I will go with Non RFT

Definitely not going with reps.. so $2300 is a lot of coins to drop already

good call.. I was going to take the care to Jiffy Lube and have the guys to install the wheels and detail. Sorry not trying to sound CoUNTry

Jiffy lube to do installs and detailing???? At that point don't really worry about what order you are doing it.

I would get the new rims, then seal them BEFORE anyone else touches them. Poor Boy's Wheel Wax is what I use, but any sort of wheel-specific sealant.

IF I got the detailing done after the sealed wheels were installed, I would be sure to let the detailer know I put wheel wax on already, don't do anything more than wash the wheels.

If the place where you are getting the wheel swapped is a reputable non shady place, I wouldn't worry about trying to decide whether to detail before or after the wheel shop. I'd probably do whatever fits your schedule at that time

My sentiments the same as above post # 8.
