08 AM Vantage V8 vs 02 Ferrari 360

I'm debating these two cars and have taken others into consideration as well.. what do you guys think? I can get both for around under $75K before taxes.

It's not going to be a daily driver

Thoughts?

Insurance rate is a huge deciding factor, which do you think has more?
reliability is a huge factor too

Not too worried about maintenance

I say Aston is the better buy.

Maintenance on the Ferrari is going to require deep, deep pocket.

I would go with the Vantage personally. It is a current model, insurance will be lower, interior quality will have more of a luxurious finish and since it is newer it will be less prone to breaking.

+1.. however both will be expensive to fix... only 1 AM dealer in the GTA... they'll rape you on parts.

Have you driven both? When I drove a vantage I felt it to be a little lacking in power. On the other hand I don't think there is anything better to drive then a mid-engined ferrari.

thanks for the input guys... what do you think the insurance costs on these? I currently pay $394 on my e93 for full insurance.

Insurance is definitely the deal breaker.

I guess $6500-$7000 per year (deductible $5000K) for Aston. Ferrari - your house as collateral.

Ferrari forums are saying they pay around $1-2k a year... might as well insure it with U.S plates.

I'll get a quote today.

Not to worried about maintenance? A word of warning on the 360's (and i'm sure you've already done your research on this) but those engines require the entire subframe to be dropped for belt maintenance and the I think 20 or 30k maintenance. It's one of the big reasons they are so cheap and the F430's are holding their value more, because the F430's don't require engine removal for the tune ups.

I love the F360 - but i'd never own an F-Car pre F430 because it would bankrupt me the minute I looked at it wrong. I vote Aston, still not going to be cheap to maintain but relative to the F360 it would be a bargain.

The comment about insurance almost makes me think this isn't for real. Really, insurance is the dealbreaker? The clutch will cost you $6k to replace on the 360, the timing belt is $3k. My guess is at least $2k / year in regular servicing, aside from any unscheduled maintenance.

This generation of Ferraris is much more reliable than the old ones, I believe, but it's still not something to be undertaken lightly.

Aston Vantage definitely. You want to be James Bond. The 360 looks completely dated.

Why don't you just call your insurance company and ask? You'd be surprised at what exotic's insurance cost, given their use/time frame. Insurance is the least of your worries, IMO.

Personally, I pick vantage - 360 never did anything for me, even the CS.

but it is true that when i see a F360 and Vantage, i go wow at the Ferrari..

my uncle actually owned F360 and DB9 (although he has california now instead of 360)
and I always wowed at the F360 because of it's color and just for it being a Ferrari...

he drove DB9 as often as a daily car and always complained that it wasn't so comfy because he could feel everything he drives on.. but he likes to flash thus driving super cars around on a daily basis as long as the weather is good..

anyways, i would also recommend vantage like the others, but i must say that I just love ferraris...

Seriously guys Aston???

THe moment that Aston martin is outdated in the looks department...you're gonna want to sell it. Its not a great driving car, the 911 is much better (but looks like a frog/doesn't have status which is why its not on your list).

The ferrari will drive well, and hold its status over time. THe Aston is there only because it looks good, it has nothing else going for it. Maybe the interior.

Saw one parked outside today in grey....its not as hot as a Ferrari.

can you bank? is the question.

Family friend ordered a f360 from the dealership (when it was available) years ago

never really bothered to look into insurance prices, as money isnt a problem
the car arrived, he called his insurance company who he has over 20 cars through (business), perfect record etc. and when he found out the price of insurance, he didnt take delivery. He actually left the car at the lot and said FU, thats how much it was to insure

Yes it was a new car but still.............

I think it depends on the ultimate goal of your purchase. For me, buying something expensive needs to take into account that element of luxury -- that "feeling of expensiveness". That's why I bought a BMW over a Nissan 370z. It gets to a point for me where the sportiness just isn't practical on the road.

If you're tracking the car, Ferrari's are expensive to maintain. I would rather get a cheap Lotus Elise, and trick that out.

Don't get me wrong, a Ferrari is special and exciting to drive. The Ferrari exhaust note is distinctively addictive. But an Aston Martin is sex on wheels. It's moving art.. absolutely gorgeous! :P And it's still faster than a lot of cars on the road.
