Removing dents with dry ice/air duster?
Hey guys I was looking for a PDR place to take my mother's car to and I can across this site:
http://www.wisebread.com/remove-car-...ly-and-cheaply They use dry ice or an air duster and heat gun to pop out dents. I mean I'm an engineer and the concept makes sense to me....but does this actually work? Has any one done this to smaller dents? I'm assuming it will only for for larger dents as they have stretched alot more than a small dent would have. The larger dents have more area to expand/contract than a smaller dent would. |

Tried that on 2 small door dings. Followed it to the T and nothing. Might only work on large dents. PDR is damn expensive too. On craigslist there are many mobile PDR guys with pretty good prices though. Try that out.

lol, the video of the guy using the air duster was pretty cool, but even if it worked I'd stay away from it. I cant imagine heating the metal panel and freezing it right afterwards would be good on your paint.

Then I'm sure you understand the concept of thermal shock (it will damage paint) |

But when you have a dent, your paint is already damaged.
PDR may even be worse for your paint because the paint will stretch with the metal...and if you pop it out, well the paint would react the same way. Regardless, I just thought it was interesting. Nothing beats a new panel and respray.... |

You're absolutely right, if the paint is cracked or damaged then your only recourse is a traditional body shop approach. I've seen some pretty amazing PDR fixes. Neighbor had a dent the size of a softball maybe a bit bigger right on the seam/body line of a GS300 on the driver door. PDR guy got it out to about 90% no paint damage or anything. Now if the neighbor can keep from running into the side of his garage
