White residue in engine bay? Help please.
I took my car in for the fuel injector recall and an oil change yesterday. I looked under the hood after getting my car back and found this strange white precipitant that I hadn't seen before. Can anyone tell me what this is? Do I have a leak somewhere? Thanks in advance.

According to something I read here, its salt residue. The car musta been near a body of water (Pacific or Atlantic Ocean) at one point from previous owners. Or what I am saying is complete BS.
My 325i had the same type of white man juice on it too, and the car came from LA. |

Might have used a degreaser to clean up things and the caustic nature of it would oxidize some alloys.
My son's subaru is crawling with that kind of stuff all over his aluminum parts on his boxer engine. We live hours from salt water. |

Looks like oxidation to me.
I live 100 feet from the caribbean ocean amd i've never had problems with oxidation. This is kinda weird

Definitely oxidation. Clean it up and see if it comes back, if so clean it up again and put corrosion inhibitor on it. If you don't care how it looks, I really wouldn't worry about it. Most likely salt from the roads. If I don't see that on a car (live in Boston and lived in Maine) I figure someone cleaned it up well. Very common up north.

I have that on my car and it is only a few months old and has 1,400 miles on it.
But it was like that from the 1st week of driving it. I think it is oxidation of some kind.

Clean it off and spray it with some WD-40 when you're done to inhibit any further corrosion.

alumina flea larvae. alumina fleas are weird little things, and thrive around anything made out of aluminum. my local recycling center is infested.
They are mostly harmless. just keep your dogs and cats away from the engine bay. |
