How to relieve pressure in the ear?
i had a cold/flu this week and today I woke up with some pain, pressure in the ear.
I tried blowing my nose... blow my nose while holding it... It feels like theres something in it... like some liquid. It's super uncomfortable... Is there anything I can do to relieve the pressure? thanks |

try putting some peroxide in it.
it's going to bubble up and fizz in your ear like crazy, but keep it in there for about a minute. then dump all the shit out. follow it up with a fist-full of qtips. |

I had the same thing several weeks ago. I google'd it, and pretty much foundout it could be a number of different things, and the treatment varies depending whether it's your inner, middle or outer ear that is being affected.
For me, I narrowed it down to blocked eustachian tubes (my sinus infection was causing the eustachian tubes -- which are the tubes connecting your inner ear to the back of your throat -- to swell and close, thereby preventing my inner ear from de-pressurizing). Pretty much, I just had to wait it out until my sinus infection went away -- about 2 weeks. So, yeah, it was pretty annoying. |

according to this... I think it narrows down to BLOCKED EUSTACHIAN TUBE I will wait it out for tonight. Try the peroxide and if that doesn't work go to the doctor. Quote:

If you've descended from High Altitude to Low Altitude, you'll have a lower pressure in your head so to speak, for this they recommend that you blow your nose while covering it. to put pressure back into your head.
If you've ascended from low to high, then you'll have higher pressure in your head, do not blow your nose and cover it, as this will only make it worst. They recommend yawning or opening your mouth really wide and squeezing then relaxing your upper jaw muscles. why would both of this method work? because there is a tube inside your mouth that connects to your inner ears. It is use for that purpose: to alleviate pressure in your head. |

This is gross as hell and I'm sure there's going to be alot of pussies that will chicken out...
If it's a nasal or sinus flu/cold try the neti pot. It's fuggin gross the first time few times you do it as you're getting out snot and shit that's years old. Smokers report huge lengths of black tar coming out. Kaiser started selling one-time use turkey baster things. But whole foods has the plastic pot and salt packets for around $15. Like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Rhino-Horn-Net.../dp/B000WGAVH4 Thanks to my dad's genes I used to have horrible allergies. Coughing, runny nose, burning eyes. Now when I start to feel symptoms I use the neti pot in the shower each morning for a few days in a row and allergies and congestion stay in check. Flu and sinus infections are gone. My dad who was on blood pressure medication couldn't take allergy meds since they affected his blood pressure meds. Now he doesn't take any allergy meds. Post pics of first one for the non-believers. j/k |
