you can customize the shit out of it too. i may do it but the main reason i did it for my iphone was for bitesms

Yeah, I mainly jailbreak for the Cydia apps like Lockinfo, bitesms, sbsettings, etc.

pretty much whatever the hell you want. customize the look. get rid of the stupid "Accessory Connected" screen when its plugged in the car, so you can control it by hand instead of the radio. make mail in portrait mode be usable, add sbsettings, install ssh, block ads, make iPod app play videos non-stop

you can do ALOT of shit that you weren't able to do when its not jailbroken.

as far as free apps... i got so much free shit for my iphone that it made me feel guilty, so when i got the iPad, i just bought every single app that i need/use.

1st gen iPads are jailbreakable with already existing tools like PwngeTool and redsn0w, but I believe if you are runnning 4.3.3 on your iPad, you should be able to use Jailbreakme site.

A little disclaimer: Apple will soon plug the hole that allows this jailbreak, so as soon as you install 4.3.x or 5.0 via iTunes, all of your customizations will be gone. Jailbreak users typically wait for a next jailbreak before their update their devices to the latest version of iOS, and sometimes have to use different methods to jailbreak.

I try to use installlous for its intended purpose, to try out the app before you pay for it and find out if it sux. For the apps I really like and use all the time, I have paid for them

The only apps I dont pay for, is when the iPad version is diff from the iPhone version, so you have to buy both, which is so stupid. Those I dont feel bad not paying for

Previous jailbreaks haven't led to malicious programs, but that doesn't mean such a leap is impossible. Quite the contrary.

"It would be very easy to change his code to be malicious," Miller told Threatpost. "If you're worried about that, you should download (Comex's) patch and apply it.

In the absence of a similar patch from Apple, that means that jailbroken iOS devices are actually better protected than non-jailbroken phones, at least for the time being, according to Miller.

PDF files that successfully exploit the vulnerability are available on the Web, according to Mikko Hypponen, chief research officer of Helsinki-based antivirus company F-Secure.

And those PDFs could be used by miscreants to hack iOS devices simply by luring users to malicious sites, said Andrew Storms, director of security operations at nCircle Security.

iPhone and iPad users steered to a malicious PDF -- via a link embedded in an email, for instance -- would not receive any warning or be required to take additional action.
