Smile Another Vishnu Customer Car: RB turbo+PWM Meth+stock exhaust

A customer dropped off his 2008 6MT Sedan yesterday for a PWM retrofit kit. His car originally had our old PPS meth kit with a Stett Charge pipe.

Other mods include:
-Upgraded FMIC
-RB Turbos
-Vishnu DCI
-Procede Rev2
-Catless resonated Downpipes

-Stock Exhaust

We removed the old PPS kit and Stett charge pipe. The only thing that was re-used was the actual meth pump. We changed the pump's bypass spring and adjusted the bypass pressure to what we spec for the PWM meth kit. On-meth boost/IC% setting was 17psi/0%. Off the shelf map. Off the shelf meth kit hardware (two 1mm nozzles).

We also swapped in a Rev2.5 (replacing his original Rev2).

Installation went smoothly as usual. On the road, the car was unlike any other upgraded turbo car I've driven...... it was QUIET! The stock exhaust with the resonated downpipes made the car barely louder than stock. Even at WOT. But man did it move! Stock suspension made things pretty exciting A total sleeper. You wouldn't know the car makes this kind of power by just driving it around casually. But push on that pedal and the rear end squats and the car just takes off. And with such a quiet exhaust note, it attracts no attention by fellow motorists

Pics:

Maiden run datalogs:
First 3rd gear run. Still some bubbles in the system:

3-4th gear run.

2-3-4th gear run. Happy engine!

The factory catback does limit power/fuel consumption. Fuel trims are actually negative at WOT. On my car running the same map (but with no cats and an upgraded exhaust), fuel trims are moderately positive. Which means more fuel consumption and more power. But still, i'm pretty shocked by how fast the car is given it's under-the-radar status.

Cheers,
Shiv

Power mods all done for now, time to work on upgrading the suspension to match. Looking forward to some test runs tomorrow.

Don't want to threadjack in here , but be carefull with those Bilsteins. My drivers side front shock is already turned into crap after 8 months of use. There is some serious play on the shock piston.

I can feel it as a clunking sound at low speeds and turns. I checked all components regarding the drive train , but all is good. Finally called my installer and he told me im not the only one with this problem with Bilsteins.
Went to the shop this morning and we checked for play on the shock , its huge.

They are now in contact with Bilstein to resolve the problem cause almost every PSS10 or the ones with ride control they installed , has this problem.

Annyway good to see another RB vishnu car on the road

Good to know how RBs are working with stock exhaust. However, I would like to see the power that upgraded twins are able to deliver. Couldn't you show logs with more boost and more timing? Preferably with FBO rather than with stock exhaust. Either with ASRs or RBs.

Thanks for the info, I have been noticing something going on with my front end at low speed turns and bumps, I will be sure look into this. My pss10's are about a year old now. Did you have to uninstall to check for play or just push on the shock when the car is raised?

Sorry to get off topic. Car looks great BTW

I've had my pss10s on about 6months..still quiet with zero issues..however I don't have the electronic ride control..mine are manually adjusting..I usually ride on medium settings.I think with ride control version you only have full soft or full hard options and riding full hard on bad roads could be the culprit..hope yours stay issue free

Given those fuel trims I'd say you're spraying too much meth

Lack of power
With all these upgraded turbos around it would be time to see some real power and maxed fuel trims. Anyone?

Nope... it's because of the open loop fuel mapping. This map was intended for a FBO car running upgraded turbos. Not a upgrade turbo car with an exhaust plug. The purpose of this test was to show how it behaved with the standard default map (no changes). Ideally, you'd want to dial back the fuel map to account for the the reduced VE of the engine. But in the case of a 17psi, big turbo car with a bit extra backpressure, it's not a terrible thing to have it run a bit richer during transients since the engine is seeing a bit more stress than it would with a free flow exhaust. Car drives great and is safely tuned.

Question Shiv,

If someone runs stocks turbos + FBO + meth BUT keeps all stock dp/exhaust, could you still expect awesome gains or would you still consider the exhaust 'plugged' as reviewed above?

Upgraded turbos flow more than stock turbos, so keeping the stock exhaust with upgraded turbos is more of a plug than with stock turbos.

With stock dp/exhaust, you will not make the same gains as you would if you had them upgraded. You would still be able to make considerably more power with just a meth kit/tune but it's all relative. Did I understand your question correctly?

With stock cats/exhaust+meth, you can run upwards to 16psi easily. And the stock intake will start to be restriction before that in most cases. So yes, DCI will help.

Few questions:

Shiv, have you seen anyone try and mod the PWM system to work with a Stett CAI?

RB is out of St. Louis right? Anyone know how to contact him?

I am pretty sure Rob Beck is out of St.Louis, I think the only way to contact him is through private message here or on N54tech.com

This link may help;
