I defected... But I've never been happier
I've had a few BMW's in the past few years and I loved most everything about them.
But it was time for an upgrade. I had a stunning 2011 E92 M3 which had some major problems that caused me to get rid of it after about 11 months or so. A great car, a timeless car, the high-revving N/A V8, the feel, the suspension, the precision - tough to beat. I'll miss that car. Back in anBenz, never been happier, love everything about this car, it's pretty epic. The interior - better than a S/CL or any BMW on the market. I can't believe how good a job they did with this interior. I opted for the optional leather (same as the AMG cars), contrast stitching, dynamic seats, the buttons, the wood, the controls, everything is just top-notch. I don't want to get out. The technology in this car is amazing, blind spot assist is neat, lane tracking, self parking (haven't used it yet, curious about this one), AirMatic suspension, sport/comfort modes, you can raise and lower the car for clearance, active steering just plants this thing down when you accelerate. It's perfection everywhere. The Twin-Turbo V8 pumping out 402HP and 443lb-ft @ 1,600 is a scary thing. The car just goes. With an ECU tune, it'll be at 445 hp and 485lb-ft torque. And the styling, well, it speaks for itself. She's a stunner. I wasn't crazy about the CLS when it first dropped in Frankfurt last year, but man, the moment you lay eyes on this car, you're in love. The Full-LED's everywhere are out of control. Here are some phone pics, picked her up a few days ago...

Hngggh so jealous. This is still my favorite four door luxury car (in AMG form specifically). We have a customer that swings by every other day in this exact color combo. I stopped the guy to tell him how beautiful it is. The taillights look so much better in person too, and those were my only reserves upon seeing it online. The headlights are unreal.
Definitely an upgrade. Congrats bro.

Might go the HRE route, need to see what would look good. Thinking 20s obviously (but I do love the AMG 19s on right now...)

Congrats. All the new Mercs are really stepping up to the plate. And I think the depreciation will also get better as the reliability and build quality gets better. I hate to say it, but it seems like BMW is going the other direction these days....

Very nice!! I ordered a 63 a month back. It should be here in six weeks or so. I was only able to test drive the 550 and I thought it was a rocket, the 63 with performance package should be a bat outta hell

Is this a '12?
Can you share your impressions thus far? My dealership advised that we won't see them up here for another month or two and I'd definitely like to have a look. |

Very jelly. I loved that thing since the very first reveal pics and seeing one in person a little while ago made me want it 1337x more, even the non-AMG variants.

However, handling aside, this car wins in every single other category and then some. Quote:
Impressions thus far: Only 100 miles on it but it just keeps getting better and better. I love how it plants down the moment you step on it, becomes very stiff and drives better than my buddies E63 (new body), both of us were very surprised at this. The interior is pure plush, it could be one of the best interiors out there, it's really incredible. I've owned a lot of nice cars, I have friends with some out of this world cars an this CLS is up there in the top-5. Engine is amazing, it just keeps going, the powerband is really sweet, the 443lb-ft of low-end torque @ 1,600 is mesmerizing for a car of this size, engine sounds great, great rumble, you know you're driving a V8. Love the Airmatic, you can lower and raise the car with the push of a button, dampers are great in Sport or Comfort, Sport mode is perfectly-agressive and when you're stuck in traffic ECO mode is really nice too. You can just drive this car all day, endlessly, it's such a dream. Benzo really stepped it up, I'm very impressed thus far. The quality/craftsmanship/engineering - everything has slowly increased through the years and they nailed this car.

I'm curious only because I drove the W218 CLS for a couple of hours and have also driven the W212 E63 pretty extensively. I found the E63 to be stiffer with the new steel suspension up front and the Airmatic in the rear. It's handling is more tactile and responsive, imho. But the CLS was smoother and "softer" over harsher roads. It didn't seem to handle as precisely (the steering rack is different in the two; the steering ratio is quicker in both the AMG versions of the W212 and the W218.) And the turn-in wasn't as sharp as the W212 E63. But the CLS felt "smoother" for the lack of a better word. There is a difference in the Airmatic DC between C and SII, but it's not that dramatic, imho (just like in past Airmatics in the W211 and the W221.) If you meant smoother, than I understand what you mean. Here's from Autocar (UK): "The chassis might not have the same leap as the engines, but still a welcomed improvement from the old car. With the Airmatic DC adaptive air springs and adaptive damping, the CLS rides smoothly and quietly – not in the league of the S Class, but outstanding for its class." Again, congrats and enjoy! |
