And just when I thought this would be something different...it's not.
I started out with a 29 myself...told my wife it would only be about $100 to convert. I'm in about 30 Grand now Addicting for sure... Here are a few pics of my 220 in wall project... Front View This was back before I added an extra 150lbs of live rock...I'll need to update this at some point. Behind the Scene Copperband Butterfly Hammer Frogspawn Yellow Tank and Bubble Coral Suncoral Banggai Cardinal Kole Tang Powder Blue Tang Naso Tang Anyway...I documented the entire build...it can be seen here. http://www.primepittsburgh.com/reef1.htm But I can keep posting pics if needed

Your tank looks so clean now...that will change I see you got some pulsing Xenia...zoas...star polyps (which will take over the tank). What kind of LPS is that in the front...I can't tell without it being open.

Forgot to post my latest fishy...I got this Koran Angel about two years ago. He didn't really start coming out (for me to get his picture) until about a month ago.
When I got him, he was about 2 1/2 inches, now he's over 7 (and still a juvenile). You can see he's starting to change a tad...

after i took care of the redslime i bought this tank and transferred w/e i had left over slowly. sadly i think i might over dosed on purple up or didnt watch my calcium levels because the torch coral i had looks like it died.....do you know anything about torch corals? if i live it in the tank will it grow back or is it too late to save? you can see it in the video and picture its the thing in front that looks closed. i saw all the green things float around the tank which gives me the impression that it died btw this tank has been running for about 2-3 weeks

I've had some torches...and unfortunately they've gone through a similar process in what I see yours doing.
Once the tissue starts to recede on the stems, that's not a good sign. The coral is looking for one of a few things. More light, more calcium, or more food. Food part can be easy. Take a 2 litre bottle top (cut it) and force it into the sand around the coral (just to keep the fishies out). You can put cyclopeez into the top and let it float around it...if it takes it, you're good...if not it's something else. Don't leave the bottle on there for more than 30 minutes. Lighting is tricky...I've never had issues with VHO or Halide...I can't tell what you have on yours, hopefully sufficient. Obviously check your calc levels or get a water change in to raise it. No need to worry about purple up...you'll get the algae you're looking for naturally with time.

i want a reef tank, but its such pain in the ass. i have friends who are obsessed with this shit, and couple of friends that service them for other people.
i'm just not ready for how time consuming and expensive it is. maybe when i become an old fart with nothing else to do.

i have the biocube HQI which uses a halide and i upgraded the bulb to a 20k to get a more blue color. mmmh i know my calcium level were a little low when i got it but i did try to raise it with some calcium that i have and i never fed it but it only lasted a week tops. could it have been the ocean water that i use from the back of my house could have been bad?
