Wheel sealant - how long does it last?

So I have just applied Poorboys wheel sealant to my winter wheels. Took me ages to get all the tar etc off that got stuck on from last winter. I put 3 coats on as suggested on the tin. Took me ages to do Will this last through the winter or not? Do I clean the wheels as normal. I normally use bilberry wheel cleaner but will this take the sealant off? Never used it before so any suggestions appreciated

Poorboys sealant is a polymer wax (may even have added PTFE). Its a good product. It's likely to last the winter, as its really only removed through mechanical friction, predominantly as you clean them.. There are certainly longer lasting alternatives. Something like Gtechniq C5 which is a quartz crystal lacquer will last much longer. certainly 6-8 months and possibly much longer.

That was what I was trying to work out. Spent hours putting the stuff on and don't want to clean it off! To get the tar off I used Bilberry wheel cleaner and an old credit card as a scraper.

I wasn't impressed by poorboys... A real PITA to apply and buff off and rubbish durability.
have moved over to planet polish wheel shine and seal. Had it on for a couple of months now, only needs shampoo to clean and still beading!

Try some Finish Kare 1000p..supposedly very good sealant for the wheels and bodywork..should last for 6 mths or so. Read about it on the detailing forum..seems to be getting raving reviews. I have just bought a tin..will probably slap some on once my 225M wheels have been refurbished.

As for tar remover..either autosmart tardis or IronX

How many applications do you get out of a 15ml bottle?

i think i read it can do a set of wheels i think

so it's a toss up between wheel cleaner or wheel sealant like this if going down this route

This looks a nice kit if you want to go the whole hog. Includes the C5 wheel armour by the looks of it. http://gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-cars...nter-whatever/

I know..i bought a 50mls sample bottle just to try it out before i commit myself...it really is what it says on the tin.
1) spray on(stink-it has an ammonia pungent smell)
2)wait for 5 mins until the spots become purple or black(you could see the spots dissolving away)
3) wash it off...no elbow grease required

I have a 500mls bottle of tardis as well..they were good for new tar spots but not the ones that has been there for ages(even tried clay barring the spots-won't come off)...with IronX it came off without a fuss.
