ABS, DSC Brake lights and 5D90????

Having issues with my ABS, DSC and Brake lights illuminating in yellow after emoving the lowering springs. Ran the BT and came up with an array of codes pertaining to the DSC:

5D93
5DE1
5DE0
5D96
5D90

I cleared all the codes but 5D90 keeps coming back and the lights won't go away. The flash out momentarily upon clearing but come right back.

I tried resetting the steering angle sensor, checked all the wheel speed sensors, got an alignment, checked the related fuses but still can't figure it out. Can anybody help me?

Wish I knew. Hopefully someone will be able to help out. Hopefully it is not the DSC module.

How did you reset the steering angle sensor? With what tool? Just curious because I'd like to check to see if my steering angle sensor is off...

What codes did you throw? Was it just the 5D90 or others too?

If it's the DSC control module its about $800 just for the part, no labor. In my case they replaced the module to find out the entire hydro unit had to be replaced (control module and pump) which was a $2200 part. They did a 50/50 good faith split for me so I ended up paying around $1300 after all discounts and whatnot were applied.

I hope that is not the case for you, but if it is you should be ready to take out your wallet... unless you still have warranty.

I'll go check my cruise control and lights in a few mintes. Thanks for the tip. Where did you find the module for $600?

I'm not under warranty but I also have not gotten any of the codes that you did when you had to replace the pump and control module. The one that I can't get rid of at this point is the '5D90- excessive wheel speed sensor. Invalid". All the others have been cleared and don't come back.

Ok, thats good then. You may want to check the wheel speed sensors and clean them to see if that helps, otherwise there is a part labeled speed sensor in the abs/dtc drawing on realoem... Maybe it's that unit? It mounts in the same general area and if I remember correctly it was a couple hundred bucks. FYI, ECS tuning has very good prices on parts, usually cheaper than Tisher.

I actually pulled out, checked, cleaned and re-inserted all 4 wheel sensors the other day and conducted a few tests on the the drivers side front one today to no avail. The wierd, and maybe good, thing is that I unplugged the drivers side front and ran a few code checks and no new codes popped up. I tried unplugging it and then starting the car to run a test, I tried unplugging with the car on and running a test and then I tried stopping the car and restarting it after unplugging it while the car was running to run a test. None of those prodced another code other than the 5D90.

I saw that part you are talking about in the drawing on real oem yesterday and you may be right. The funny thing is that I did a search with that part number and it came back as a rear diff mounted speed sensor for the 335 as well as a few other BMW's but I confirmed today from a few sources that the 335 does not have a rear diff mounted sensor. The pain is that the part we are talking about it mounted underneath the abs/dsc pump and control unit and the only way to get to it is to remove that stuff and to do that the brakes need to be drained first. I might have a tech look at it and run the cdes to see what he thinks before I buy anything. Depends on how much he wants to charge me and how sure he will be about knowing what it is.

That's prob your best bet... Pay the $120 or whatever your dealers diag fee is and get a better idea of what the problem is.

Link? When I looked, the only units on ebay were e46 or older. The best price was a new unit from ECS tuning.

Waiting on a couple of wheel sensors I ordered to plug in and see if they rectify the situation or not. A local board member looked for the 5D90 in a database he has access to and didn't find it. If the wheel sensors don't help then I will have a BMW tech look at it and run the codes.

My cruise control isn't working at this point but I have no codes for anything other than wheel sensor related stuff at this point.

What was the diagnosis from the dealer? I have all of three lights on with no cruise control but my light leveling works.

There are a bunch of reasons that cause the same lights to go on. The info you need is on the codes being thrown. Most of the systems are tied together too. You have the exact sypmtoms I do at this point but it could be something completely different. You won't know until you read the codes. Post the up here when you find out

5D90 and 5D96 were caused by a faulty front driver side wheel sensor. I bought the parts fron ECS Tuning(front wheel speed sensor and plastic fitting that it plugs in to) and installed them in a matter of 10 mintues. Drove the car 100 yards and the codes/lights went away. All is back to normal.
