mattress recomdendations

feel weird inquiring about this but anyone have a recent mattress buying experience or have one that they've had for years that they're happy with.

i was all set on buying the Sealy Crown Jewel Tiffany Sun Euro Pillow Top, regular $1800 but on sale for half off, but looking at some online reviews i can't believe how crappy this mattress is and how it falls apart so quickly. So i started to look for some other reviews but all i could find is people complaining

my budget is +/- $1000

type: i don't know something comfortable, this is more for my wife then me, she has back problems, i'm perfectly happy with the one i bought ten years ago, lol

any advice, experiences or recommendations welcome

There are two things in this world that I refuse to settle on.. TV's and Mattresses. Both items you will use more than anything else you purchase over the next 3 years.

Go to an actual store and try as many out as you can. Tell your wife not to be embarrassed to lay on her side and take a moment or two to settle into it. Find what suits her.

Go to store. Take nap. Negotiate.

Theyre like buying a car and the salesmen have room to negotiate.

well the one i was planning to buy was super comfy, only problem is that reviews say that the top layers (latex + memory foam) fall apart after a few years and leave giant indentations in the mattress.

i've heard lots of good things so far on tempurpedic mattresses, will have to check those out

Friend of mine sells mattresses. There is a lot of profit in them. You can get a significant discount with good negotiation skills.

Tempurpedic prices won't budge. They are like Oakley: if the find out you sold it for less than what they want it sold for they will yank your dealer authorization.

Buy a copy, Tempur is so overpriced. Their patentied technology is nothing more than the type of gluing process they use to hold the layers together, change the type of glue and you circumvent the patent and cost $2000 less.

Purchased a new $200 Diamond mattress 9 months ago. Purchased a $100 memory foam topper from Overstock and placed a comfy mattress pad over it. I thought I would go with this until I could save up for a better mattress. It turns out it as comfortable as shit. I sleep well and no back pains like I had from my old mattress.

I bought a Laura Ashley memory foam ~$750 at Sleepy's.. It felt the best in the store, but it's hard to make a decision with a few minutes of use. It seems like you really won't know until you spend a night in it.
