Different strokes... The beauty of all these competitions is that we seem to have pretty radically divergent tastes. So I get to see what beauty others find in places I'd never expect, and vise-versa.

I didn't say anything before because i didn't think the mtn lion pic had enough photographical merit to pull any votes. But the wall the mtn lion is resting it's head on was clearly cast by humans.

Separately,

And i'm curious as to what the blue spot is in Chewy's pic. I'm baffled by it, can't figure it out for the life of me.

The blue spot might be a plastic bag or some such thing. And FWIW, I'd still vote for Tranquility again. Nice shot.

My thoughts as well. Not necessarily the rock, but I thought the entire setting was obviously a zoo or reserve. Even if it's natural rock or wood, it's a man made backdrop.

I think it's a shallow boulder or rock. Often they're discolored by moving water.

There seems to be some similar blue color in the water at the edge by the log too. So maybe it's just a strange light reflection.

I think they were referring to the wooden 2x4 in the foreground, as opposed to the rock.

I was actually referring to the rock. It's actually cast concrete made to look more natural. Some times these contests are real sticklers for the rules and sometimes they are more lax. But typically deciding if a photo fits the rules or not is at the discretion of the person who came up with the theme.

Also we all judge photos on different criteria. For me the subject has less to do with my choice than many others. I tend to choose the photos that move me a bit and then judge them on the technical aspects of the image; composition, color, focus, DOF, etc... So don't take my comments to heart. (besides, your pic got 2x as many votes as mine!

)
