...this is inferior to the Bavarian Technic (BT) tool I was talking about in the Diesel Tuning thread. I have no idea what this product is so I can't vouch for it. Looks a bit dodgy though.

http://www.burgertuning.com/scanner.html

The BT tool has been tried and tested by N54 users for the past 4-5 years. It reads and clears all shadow tuner codes. It's DESIGNED for our BMWs. It has advanced datalogging functions. This is the one I would trust. Grab it off the BMS website.

I'm not sure why you would need one unless you're running a tune? There's no use datalogging a stock car. Acceleration/horsepower tests on these things are bogus anyway, so that function is pretty much useless. Pay $50 for a few runs on a real dyno if you want to test that out.

Got a question about these types of software (example being this app)...

See image:

People say to clear any DTC's to ensure all is sweet before going in for a service (for example).... but this app not only shows the DTC's but shows the time that they were last cleared.

Won't this draw the attention of the technicians when the timing doesn't match up with the last scheduled service???

If you're running PROcede or JB4 it already has input CANclear and shadow code reading/clearing functions, so BT tool is redundant for tuned N54s. You can plug in your laptop to your piggy and the same display will come up.

Code clearing shouldn't come up with an alert telling you when the last time codes were cleared. It might just be the software itself logging when the last time it cleared codes, and hopefully doesn't record it on your DME. BMW techs certainly shouldn't be able to see you clearing codes.

PROcede/JB4/BT tool certainly do not have this problem. They are effectively invisible unless BMW HQ wants to screw you over and do an in depth analysis of your ECU.
