Rear Fog Light Warning Light

This has come on today for me and I havent even used the fog lights since I bought the car a month ago and they still work as I have just tried them now.

Is this an indication that they are on there way out? Even so, seems strange as the warning light came on without them being used.

Its an AUC car but I dont think bulbs are included.

Any ideas on this?!

Thanks

What does the dash show/say?

It may be another issue which is linked to the foglight symbol on the display. Is it the brake light?

For example, on the VWs when the brake light switches failed, it threw up a coil plug error light! So BMW may have similar?

I have booked it in to my local BMW dealership for Monday.

If it is what you think it could be, I take it this would be covered under the warranty, which is a bonus.

I've had intermittent failure warnings due to corroded contacts.

Take out the rear cluster and check the bulbs.

To add to that....the indicators have gone ultra fast now, so seems like something is up and thats what has caused the warning light to come on.

Your BMW can check the resistance of all lamps in the clusters without them being turned on.
It is also checked when they are powered up too, periodically.
Either the 'cold' or 'hot' test will show a lamp fail alarm if the resistance or current draw in the circuit is not as expected.

You can have a lamp still work but a high resistance connection.
e.g. if the contacts on the rear of the lamp are dirty or corroded.
Also some clusters have two lamps for each function (brake lamps etc) and sometimes you dont see that one is blown.

Intermittent errors like this are almost always dirty connections or old lamps.
I would save your money, pull the covers off and remove/replace the lamps first - giving the contacts a quick clean up.
Tho boot lid being contanantly slammed seems to upset these clusters in the lid quite frequently.

10 points go to Dr Dave......just had the phone call from my local dealer to say the car is ready.

They replaced the lighting module located in the passanger footwell.

All covered under the warranty.
