Over 10,000 e9X sold - How many pump failures?

How many pump failures have there been? My dealer says less than 1% of cars sold.

Highly unlikely that only 1% would be affected as there is a large population only on this forum affected. This forum is also not representative of the general bmw population.

Your dealer is smoking crack. And it's the 335i's pump that has the problem.

Correct, it is only the 335's. This forum represents a very small number of all 3 series owners out there. I would imagine that we have about 20 members posting about pump going out on this forum thus far.

That being said, you can still calculate the percentage of members with 335's as a total then take out those who have pump failures. Then assert those numbers to the amount of 335's (again mostly coupes) that have been sold each month.

If the CA in the OP was counting ALL e9x then yes, the cars with failures would probably account for 1% or even less. However that number would rise incredibly when ONLY counting 335's.

its probably closer to 5-10% considering that there were 200 pumps on backorder when my pump was ordered, my pump came in 6 weeks later, and there are still over 250 on backorder... meaning at least 500 probably failed... because the backorder number rises and falls, yet replacements are coming in...

Are the 335 E90s and E92s manufactured in the same factory? If yes, how come E92s suffer from the fuel pump syndrom and not the E90s?

They're all gonna fail, it's just a matter of time...

I'm hoping to lemon my car and go back to my E46 M3 after this...

Still no national news on this supposed massive amount of failures. In the meantime this engine just won international engine of the year.

I'm ordering an XI on thursday, been planning on this for awhile. Should I be worried about the pump on that? Or they might have fixed it.

IF my fuel pump fails and im stuck without my car for longer than a month then I will be doing the same.

I dont know how some people dont mind waiting 2+ months for a fuel pump.

But im optimist and hoping they fixed the issue before i get my 335i. Considering this thread was made on the 12th and its still on the first page... might mean there arent that many failures after all.

I don't care how many, I just know that one was mine.
It's been almost 3 weeks now.
I may not have it for another 3-4 weeks I'm told.

I will be contacting BMWNA later this week.

I may end up lemoning mine as well and picking up a lightly used e46 M3ZCP.

I just don't know yet.

what are the parameters for "lemoning" a car?

thats a horrible back order!

right now I'm on the fence between an M3 or ordering a 335i. Should I order the fuel pump when I order my car? jus kidding...

Each state has its own laws to lemon a car. For instance in California, if they attempt to fix the same problems more than 3 times within a year or if they have the car in their possession for more than 30 days, you can lemon it.

I seriously think that BMW will fix this problem sooner or later. They have to. Or else everyone would lemon their 335i.
