Clutch life

Who on here has had a clutch replacement and at what mileage?

My service history shows no signs of mine being done but the car has done far more miles than I'd expect it to on the original unit!

A clutch should last a long long time if not abused too much.

Only time I've ever replaced a clutch was on an old banger of a car and that was only after the gearbox failed.

My 2009 318d had a new clutch fitted at 5000miles. It was a lemon that's all I can say. Said goodbye to it long ago

Mine has done 127k

That just seems a hell of a lot of miles to me...

I work in car parts and have worked in garages too, hence the surprise at the miles.

As for it lasting a long time if treated well, it hasn't been, it's been battered around everywhere!

My E46 330d had 188k without replacing the clutch, even at that mileage there wasn't any sign that it was worn.

That was with some towing too!

I've had various cars to over 100K and none has had a new clutch AFAIK.

Except a gearbox oil leak killed a 309GTI clutch off early......and engine out in a Mk1 XR2 at 135K and put in a new clutch at the same time, but the original factory ford one was still fine.

I would hope never to change the clutch in my 335i.

+1

The last time I chopped a clutch was around 1990.

Seriously.

And I have had a lot of cars, and I have been to the moon and back multiple times

Still too many people who hold their car on It's clutch when sitting on a hill.

That knocks the life out of them.
