Which oil does the 335i require, and where's best to get it from?

I use margarine in mine, Stork SB is fine, just melt it a bit first else you can't poke it in through the filler cap.

Alternatively use any LL04 spec 5W-30 oil

The best bit about the margarine route is that it gives a nice, even, smooth coating to the engine parts; even on a cold morning.

If you buy say 20 litres from opie oils or somewhere, then you can get a good discount.

Seems the labour is the variable rip-off portion. Shouldn't be more than 1/2 hour for an oil and filter, more like 15 minutes in reality.

So a good indie will be £25 for 1/2 hour, and a dealers about £70 - all plus the oil and filter.

Dealers seem to charge £15 to £20 per litre for the oil in my experience, even though they pump it from a 55 gallon drum they still charge you for whole litres, i.e 7 litres charged for a 6.5 litre oil change.

I took mine to BMW Scotthall Milton Keynes for an MOT a few weeks back.

I said to the girl - while it's in can you give it an oil service, and BTW how much?
When she said £254 (TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY FOUR POUNDS!!) I thought my ears were on the blink.

She said that includes the microfilter! I should f*cking think so for that money.

Needless to say I passed.

£220 incl. VAT. Dick Lovett have agreed to price match a local independent specialist. Originally £246, with wellsway in bath at £250...

On the plus side, get free wifi, marshfield bakery flapjacks and the receptionists are FIT.

Not nice but what you gonna do?
