6MT clutch clicking/creaking when pressed

Today I noticed that my car seems to be making a clicking or creaking noise when I push the clutch pedal in or let it up. It seems to be coming from somewhere in the front. Seems to work OK, but I've never heard this before. Car is off with parking brake engaged in the video. Any ideas?

I had this issue for a long time
Kinda got used to it
I think the squeaking comes from the slave cylinder
How many miles do you have?

I just had the brakes done as well... not sure if it could be related, do the brakes and the clutch share anything?

My new 328i does this too. Although I'm more annoyed that the accelerator pedal is creaking when I press it. My 323 never did this. I'll be going back to the dealer for a fix soon.

They share the fluid reservoir

Both systems use the same fluid and reservoir.

I have the same issue. My dealership tried many things, including a clutch replacement, to finally realize that it's coming from the slave cylinder. They lubed up the piston and the noise went away. Putting some grease on it makes the noise go away for a couple of months or so but it will be back. I don't believe it's harming anything though.

Let me know if you figure out a permanent solution.

Mine always makes a noise but not like a creaky step on a staircase haha. How many miles? NVM I just read above.. you have a little more than 10k miles than I do. Even with the sound, though, I do not think the noise would mean there is anything inherently wrong but I could be mistaken. Clutches, by nature, are noisy. They have to flex to work. But I do understand your concern. The only noise that should come out of BMW's should be beautiful ones.

+1

I went to the dealer (~40,000 mls) and a little lube did the trick. The issue is back now (~68,000 mls) and I'll fix the issue myself soon.

I'm getting almost the same thing on mine.. except only when I release the clutch and I can only duplicate it shifting gears.

You fix it yet?

It seems to have gone away as quickly as it came. Strange...

Keeping an eye on it.

Found an e46 owner complaining about the same thing -

No solution posted, though...

Well an update. It finally was doing this noise when I had it in for service. The shop foreman listened to it and thought it was coming from behind the firewall and suggested it was from the "throwout bearing". He also suggested that it wouldn't really cause any harm and that it wouldn't be worth fixing it until I replaced the whole clutch. Does this make sense? Anyone else have problems with a throwout bearing?

I do notice that it also is "notchy" and hard to get into 1st gear sometimes, but I was told that "they all do that". I get judder when cold as well, but again "they all do that", supposedly.

Well the clutch isn't covered under CPO, so I guess unless someone had a better idea or a less expensive way to fix/diagnose this issue, I'm just gonna let it creak for a while..

Nothing you should worry yourself about unless the clutch is getting stiffer. What you need is lube

So what do I lube? I thought the throwout bearing was inside the clutch itself? Perhaps i'm thinking of something else? Clutch pedal isn't stiff, the action is fine.
