Radar detector
HI everyone
Had a quick question for everyone what is the best radar detector. Price really isnt an option i just want it to work good. I would like something that i could maybe integrate into the dash i just dont want a big goofy wire hanging down to my ash trey. Thanks |

You're lucky that you live in a state where radar detectors are legal. Your top two choices would be the Valentine One or Escort Passport 9500ix.

I've run an escort 9500i for years with only one issue getting lasered off a bridge. I am really interested in a 9500ci if anyone has any feedback on that. Unless something negatvie comes out of that, I'd be looking at that as an option.

Escort is actually better than valentine. I use it all the time it already paid itself off a couple of times.

It's personal preference for the most part. Some people love the arrows, some don't mind. Some people love every alarm possible, some find it annoying. I'm sure most, if not all of the Valentine One users can also say "I use it all the time it already paid itself off a coupe of times."

+1,000 Purchased my V1 in 2003 and it has paid for itself multiple times. I actually just got it back from Valentine where they upgraded it to the most current firmware and internals. You can't beat upgradable technology. |

Preference really is key between the Escort and the V1. I have had the V1 for 3 years now and is by far the best mod I have. It has saved me from many tickets and goes off well in advance of seeing any cops.

if money isnt an issue then do something classy like a custom installed set up. 9500ci is nice but its display is blue which doenst match our instruments. you can do Bel STiR+ almost identical unit, some say better and it has a red display.
I have a Qi45 in my Ranger, it is very very good. was easy to install. I wish i had waited to get the new Qi45 (8500ci) that has GPS built in because in certain spots around town the Qi45 can get a bit naggy. In todays market i dont think it makes any sense to get a radar without GPS.

I have a Passport 9500 and it works excellent. One tip or word of advice; do not buy a refurbished model off ebay; it will have problems.

I have the excort passport 8500 and i love it. I wanted the 9500 but it was a little pricey I think. Love my 8500 and its hardwired so no dangling wires anywhere.

I'm a huge Valentine V1 fan. I have mine integrated in to the gauge cluster of my daily driver and one mounted where the ash tray use to be in my other car both using the concealed display kits.

To be fair; I have no idea why Virginia is the case... If anything I would expect places like Florida and California which with their long, wide open highways essentially encourage speeding.

I know this is beyond what the OP asked for but I think its a waist to just get a radar detector which is useless against a laser.
Get the Escort 9500ci. The only thing you have to worry about essentially is being paced. |

the 9500ci is nice because its an 'all inclusive' package but their laser shifters are garbage. there are tests to prove their lack of effectiveness (LED) over Diode based systems.
having a less than effective set up just gives you a false sense of security, which is prob worse than having nothing at all.
