I got the Nikkor 12-24mm lens right now and i'm looking to upgrade for the 10-24; which is wider then my 12-24.

1- Would you upgrade if its at no cost? (I love Nikon's government rates!)
2- Is the 10-24 giving too much distortion?
3- Why's the 12-24 still selling at a higher price then the 10-24? I saw that the 10-24 was supposed to replace the 12-24; so it should be the opposite no?

The 12-24 is a constant aperture (f4) lens, while the 10-24 is a variable (f3.5/4.5). Personally, I don't buy zooms that aren't constant aperture. But this might be a special case, since you are gaining a 1/3 stop on the short end, and only giving up a 1/3 stop on the long end, and the range is only 2/3rds of stop from end to end. That's actually not to bad, considering most cheaper zooms lose a full stop to 1+1/3rd stops.

I'd go for the 14-24, but I'm shooting full frame.....

If your using a DX get the Tokina 11-16mm. It's constant f2.8.

Good answer; but the 14-24 is like double of the price of the 10-24 i'm looking to buy. I'm no pro; I shoot for fun and I only got a D5000 and D7000. So I dont think the 14-24 would be a wise decision for me since I cant justify such an expense. But I agree that its the best nikon wide angle lens available.

I wouldnt feel good paying over $1400 for a lens; the gf is still waiting after her diamond lol. But maybe if I ever get a full frame it'll be worth it. But the DX's gonna do for now.

Considering you are using both a D5000 & a D7000, I think the Nikon would be better for you. If it was just the D7000 then I'd lean towards the Tokina due to the f2.8 aperture. Since the Tokina needs a focus motor on the body it won't focus on the D5000.

Keep your 12-24 and consider the Sigma 10-20mm if you need the extra 2mm increased FOV. Yes, it's an F4-5.6 lens, but the HSM (like Nikon's AF-S SWM) functionality will auto focus on your D5000 too. Some guys like the Tokina 11-16mm, others the Sigma. My friend has the Sigma, and I can see a little 'moustache' distortion at 10 to 12mm, but it's slight. What would (will) I do though, since I too can get the Gov't discount -- the NIKKOR 10-24 F3.5-4.5, since its within $20 of the non-discounted SIGMA 10-20mm.

That's also what I was leaning forward to do; since the Nikkor got the best aperture.

And the resale value is waaaay better on Nikkor then any other brand.
