B&M vs UUC Short Shift Kit

B&M has their short shift kit out for our cars right now and UUC is coming soon. The designs are different. Each manufacturer claims the superiority of its model and UUC says that the B&M will vibrate.

So has anyone tried a B&M or UUC shift kit? Impressions?

I have the UUC shift kit on my old 1997 328i. Not sure how it compares with B&M, but it was a gigantic leap from stock. I had a few mis-shifts with the stock shifter and thought it was just because I sucked, but after getting the UUC shifter (with the DSSR) I haven't missed a shift since... Plus it "feels" sportier ... as in, it has a very metal feel and you know where you are

My father sells bearings and such and he did research on the short shifters and noticed that UUC uses higher quality parts, which is why we ended up choosing it ... if that helps any :P

BMW is coming out with their own SSK for the 335i. I actually saw the pic of it in the catalogue and it apparently seems like a full shift kit - 25% reduced throw. It even comes with the shifter knob in suede....nice. So it may be a good idea to wait for this perhaps. End of June or July they should be out with the dealers (hopefully).

After putting the shorter OEM shift knob in, it feels much better. To the point where I dont feel the need for an actual short shifter. Plus I like the fact that it was a 2 minute mod as opposed to a 40 minute mod(yes, you still need to get under the car to the "bitch clip" for a shifter swap).

I have a Rogue Shifter in my E90 325, it is very nice.

Send Rogue an email about your interest in a 335 setup, get the pressure on to make one!

noob question but the short shift kits, i know they reduce the distance to shift but are they actually shorter? making the shift knob look and feel lower?

Its a good question. Most of the time the height is reduced insignificantly. Its all about shortening the length of throw.

Yes, its that insignificant. Most of the time, a shorter shift knob, like the OEM one I got, will do more for height reduction.

Thanks for the props.

Lets make sure we are talking about the same thing. Most of the time SSK=ShortShiftKit. However, are you meaning ShortShiftKnob? If so, then the shorter knob like Im talking about is the all leather one in the parts catalog.

cause i changed my knob to the Hamann racing one and it's just a little tiny bit shorter than the stock. might as well get the ssk first and installed and see how it goes otherwise i might just change another knob
