Stock xi driveline + Tune...good/bad/ugly?!?
Thinking about up sizing from 135i with 6MT to 335xi coupe. I would like another 6MT but I could be looking for a LONG time. What are the weak parts of the driveline? Have there been many issues with people running Cobb Stage 1 93 octane tune??
Thanks. |

If you launch your car extremely hard constantly, I've heard the front differential isn't up to the task on the xi. Friend of mine who had one two years ago blew that front diff three times in about 30k miles

Can you recall if he had an automatic or manual. I only have 2 pedals and to launch I go to about 2500 rpms and let off. I'd say in the past year I've had the car, I have about 50 of those launches under my belt while at the track or street. I don't think I'm having any differential problems yet, but who knows. |

55K total, FBO for 20k. Only problem was a defective VTG actuator motor...basically turned car into RWD. It was covered under warranty.
You will notice torque steer as well. Really bad in first and tolerable in second and nonexistent thereafter. The drive shafts in the front are not equal length. On the bright side you can really accelerate out of a corner and drive to Tahoe when there is snow.
