First Mod for my car

Hello everyone, I am ready to order my first mod for my 335i. I have owned it for about 1 month. It is currently bone stock. I was thinking of ordering the aFe Dual Cone intake with the heat shield and air scoops. Is this a good place to start or is there something else I should get first?

Get a tune 1st
JB, PROcede, COBB, Etc...

You're going to have to research that part.

Tune first!
Please don't ask which one. Do your homework and make a decision.

I purchased the tune, matte black grill and AFE DCI together as my first mods.

While I do agree going tune first for pure power......I still hold firm ground by saying TIRES first for overall performance increase.

I say you're both wrong. I'd go with the ventilated brake lines and high-performance blinker fluid.

More seriously, best "mod" would be a good drivers school.

Point...set....match. HPDE/Barber/NCRC/Hooked on Driving are all great choices. Driver mod > all.

Garage List
The OP shows an '07 335i. Given it's 2012, I guess the car prob has 60K+ miles on it? My advice is: first mod should be suspension upgrade (assuming run-flats are gone already).

I recently upgraded to Koni Yellows + H&R Sport. My next mod is Tune (Cobb). I'm glad I did the suspension first cause old struts would not have handled extra power very well around corners.

My vote:
1) Run-flats replacements
2) Suspension Upgrade
3) Tune

+1 on driving school.

I appreciate all of the advice. I have been building cars all of my life but have never personally owned a turbo car. I am going to focus on getting a tune and then suspension. Maybe this thread can be useful to someone else now. Thanks again for the input.

Tune FTW. You dont need driving school lol, your not driving a 1500hp Supra, or an F1 race car.... You will get 10x the power increase for the same price when comparing a tune to an intake setup. And just burn them runflats off with your new power, THEN upgrade your tires

Staring off with a tune is a great choice as it's going to be the single mod that is going to make the biggest difference on the performance of the car. There are plenty of tunes out there such as the COBB, JB4, and Proceed and it ultimately comes down to your personal choice as to which one you feel best suits your needs!

Let me race you and your tuned 335 around a track with a 150hp Spec Miata and see if you still agree with your statement

With all the crap in my car, I could own both a Spec E30, Miata, and a trailer while having more fun at track days not worry about my tempermental car acting up.

Sorry for the late reply to this somewhat argument but...I took a driving school at Barber Motorsports about 4 years ago. I can't wait to get on that track with my BMW!!!

Ebay/Craigslist for $2500 You will get passed easily on the straights, but own just about everything in the turns. All you need is some R-comps and track brake pads and you are set, it will feel like you are are on a rollercoaster.

I would love to take you up on this and also give you a 1 lap lead in my 550hp AWD Talon To me, my tuned 335i feels like a 150hp miata. My point is, the OP wasnt asking what would help him be fastest around a race track.

He mentioned nothing even pointing to the fact that he might even go to the track. If he asked what mod to get for a race track, then clearly the driving lessons. But he didnt. Sorry for getting off topic.
